One of my grandsons (#3 in fact) is eager to play after his birthday at the end of the month. Like me he is on the small side and so I need a suitable AEG for him.
I looked at the GG Firehawk but have been told it's quite heavy for it's size. I may need to opt for a polymer unit ,but M4 based, recommendations invited.
TIA.

No preference, but we all have M4's so it's easier for mags.

Thirded for the specna arms polymer series a mate of mine has their ak and it's a great runner

The only issue I can see might be the stock length on most AEG's,I may have to opt for a smaller "compact" stock.

He's round tomorrow I'll see if he can wrap his arms around my MTW just for an idea of needs.

Amoeba by ares mutant amm7 perhaps.

There's also the delta armory wraith which is a polymer bodied pdw that takes M4 mags

I would say yes as a gun but as an Ares product, I'd tread carefully. My example was a good one that didn't skip a beat but I'm aware that the brand has a questionable reliability record and with lots of proprietary parts, repairs can be a pain.

Depending on the mags you use, you may need to shim the magwell as they can wobble a lot inside. If you use different muzzle devices, you should bear in mind the CW thread just to be a pain in the arse from most being CCW.

If PDWs are what you're considering, it may be worth a look at the Double Eagle M923A.

He's "advised" me he'd prefer an SMG and as it happens a friend has an MP5 which I can take the stock off.
He tried mine today and he will struggle with a stock and I want him to enjoy his initiation.
Just need to stick a drum mag on it and buy a ton of BB's.
I understand the shortfall of such a short barrel but I think it's the best option.
Thanks for all the advice.

MP5s are more than capable, even with their short barrels. I have an NGRS MP5 that's only had inner barrel and bucking changed and it does just fine, despite being ~0.8j.

If there was some sort of mandatory pre-learning package before owning any type of IF, it should definitely include a bit about how almost all of them do (on a basic level) the same thing in terms of shooting a bb, regardless of the wild variety of external appearances.
It's understandable why people come in to the game thinking differently, because in real firearms an MP5 has rather different output to a Barrett 50. I've seen someone do a stupidly short inner barrel on an AEG though and it basically still flung a bb around the usual distance with about the usual accuracy (if it was someone on here please speak up because I wish I could remember the details lol).

Good feedback and support for the MP5,I've sourced one off a friend but he's mislaid the drum mag.
I don't want my GS to be weighed down with kit, yet, so I'll get a drum mag if the friend doesn't find the one he had.
I hope to introduce the GS and make his 1st day hassle free and enjoyable.
Thanks again.

Is the proposition that you've got him an MP5 and you're weighing up having load-carriage with spare mags vs purely 1 drum mag in the gun and no rig of any kind? If so honestly wouldn't recommend the drum. The weight that people notice most is the weight their arms are having to support all day. A very compact rig with some plastic mid-caps for an SMG weighs genuinely naff all and the mags will probably be cheaper, certainly easier to find than a reliable drum, with more chances of working properly and if one doesn't work you just swap mags, whereas you're stuffed if the drum gives out.
