Booing for anthems is something that's occurred very often in this sport. (NOT THAT I APPROVE). The only reason it's now an issue and being highlighted by the media is due to this emphasis of inclusivity and anti-hate as of late. A few years back this would've been no big deal at all.
A lot of what England fans do can be attributed to alcohol and being overly passionate for our team. Football is more than just a game for a lot of people.
We can be arseholes indeed but if you think that is bad; The Spanish fans are the absolute pinnacle of unsportsmanlike conduct. Anything from Booing during anthems to racist chants is what you can expect from them at times. Not that any of that excuses the behaviour of English fans. Trust me I know this first hand being that I'm a Arsenal fan and have been involved when shit gets extremely bad. Arsenal VS Tottenham qualifier? You'd best believe something is going down when that final whistle blows. During one of the North London derbies we took a 2-0 loss and had to be escorted out by the police for our own safety to get away from the Tottenham fans.

Sorry but I have to disagree on blaming alcohol. Rugby fans are traditionally even bigger piss heads and just as passionate, but are able to get along fine with opposition fans. To the point that they don't need to be segregated in the stadium

This happens in all forms of human existence no matter how many good people there is there WILL always be bad people.
Would you want Airsoft being banned in this country just because of a few eeejits showing zero respect for what they have in their hands and shooting up a public space ??
