Try to bait another og CS player into a discussion about the good ol days and he flat out fails me...  ?

@kasaran good choice on the G3 btw... LCT/olive furniture/narrow hand guards, literally the gun at the top of my wish list ?

Me too, been holding out for an L1A1, but I think a G3 might fill the gap for the time being ?

Yeah I like the FAL/SLR types too, though the gun in that range that I have had my eye on is actually the modernised ASG or CA SA-58, might be my favorite carbine length Battle Rifle.

I think it would make a great mercenary load-out gun, maybe some sort of South African thing.

I was half looking at them, but ares seem to have alot of problems for such an expensive gun.

Maybe with the new call of duty and insergency 2 having the FAL in them will make enough people want it for other manufacturers to consider making one?  LCT already make quite a few cold war rifles....

Same for me, L1A1's were my service rifle so I have an affinity for them, but the extremely limited production runs coupled with poor QC/build quality, add to that the higher than average AEG prices has made me hold off buying.

I'm always moaning that no other firms have had a crack at making one worth having, but as some have pointed out their apparently not popular enough, probably partly for the reasons I've mentioned.

Doesn't stop them being the most mentioned gun in the wanted sections.

If I could get a great L1A1, I know I'd then buy a stubby fal/sa58 to have more than one gun with mag compatability.

Yeah, I had no idea Ares were so bad until I started watching Negative airsoft - the issue with the hop unit being able to twist in place just seems awful.

What about the Kingarms variants, I think they do a FAL and L1A1? I've never had a gun from them but their internal components are decent and there mags are also fine.

Just did a quick search and looks like no one has them in at the mo... HK or EU maybe?

Its here.  Never had a rotary hop up.  Which way is hop on amd off?  Turn it down or up?  Nothing in the instructions.

Such a nooby question xD

You have one dont you @Iceni?

Everythings so stiff.  Im working on the fire selector atm.

I can never remember - I generally just fire a few shots and adjust it till it's right, then forget about it until there is a reason to adjust again.

Does it meet your expectations :D

it'll be down to turn it up, unless it's one of those ones where it's up to turn it up.

Tis longer than i expected. Like half an inch shorter than the rpk. And everythings stiff, been working at the selector idley (airsoft guns are my fidget spinners).  Im likely to need to use a screw driver to adjust the hop up when i get to take it somewhere with enough distance to set it.

Mag changes are going to be fun.  Its sort of AK style but then not.  Either wayi need to get some more mags before i can skirm it. Likely after payday this or next month.  Just need this whole pandemic thing to blow over so i can use it.

310fps on the sheet if anyones wondering.

Don't think anyone can argue with that..  :P

yep, although on a more serious note i'm pretty sure all the ones i've met are down to turn the hop up, but as they say there are exceptions to every rule.

easiest way to tell is to set it all the way one way and see what happens.

Yeah, I mean.. message to hop manufacturers, put a freaking arrow on your hop units..

You know, come to think of it, off the top my head I cant think what direction a G36 rotary hop has to be turned.

My g&g umg has an arrow, g&p m16a1 has an arrow and my tm 14 has an arrow...

Just petition for consistency please

Well every M4/16 rotary hop I've ever worked with dials downward to increase hop, so that's fairly consistent.. are there any m4 hops which dial up? And all those you mention will be hops that come with out of the box guns, so it makes sense that G&P, G&G and most AEG manufacturers mark them as the gun could be for anyone including a complete newbie. But as far as I'm aware most of the aftermarket component companies don't mark the rotary style hops with an arrow (i'm sure some do)... oh Yeah Madbull, they mark theirs, shame about the piece of junk unit itself ?

I'm with him ?, mainly because I can never remember ?, so every time I set a hop it usually takes half a dozen attempts

So you've had a couple of hours fondling the G3 now @kasaran

Do you regret not getting the pistols?

Ill get them eventually.... they are individually cheaper and more readily available.   But you gotta love a cold war battle rifle. Just been trying to build a PMC style loadout shopping list for it and struggling to find OD 7.62 mag pouches.  Best i have found are https://www.military1st.co.uk/191040-001-condor-double-m14-kangaroo-mag-pouch-olive-drab.html  but £22 is a quite alot for what it is.  Plus my standard midcap count is 4 in pouches, 1 in gun.  So £44...

I have some multicam 7.62 pouches i got for the m14, but i dont want that type of camo for it.  i suppose my 'nam rigging should fit the mags too,  but wrong impression.... could do in a pinch though.

Im thinking camo trousers, not sure what yet.  And a solid coloured torso with an OD or ranger green rig.  Pouches are just being a pain

I went 1990's flecktarn for a very good reason.

The 90's pouches and belts from the German army is dirt cheap.

That site seems to have the best range of 1990's gear, and even with the high shipping it'll work out cheaper than just about anywhere on the net provided you get a full loadout. Shipping isn't tracked and normally takes a couple of weeks, but everything I got was absolutely perfect from them.

The site isn't friendly to navigate so here's a link to all 16 pages of German gear if you can't find the size you need in the links I gave.

Zib have the O/D pouches in stock and the gun accessories that you may be after like slings and real sight drum ect. Be careful with the Pouch fittings, The German army went through a few mounting systems. The one above in flecktarn uses hard plastic clips that are fantastic, The ones bellow are much cheaper and either go onto a belt or into molle.

You could spray them OD, though you wouldn't really be able to return them to multicam. I had a set of pouches that i would change from black to green every couple years - it actually works really well, so long as you don't coat it on too thick, you need to lightly dust it on in a few layers.
