Hi all, volume of these GreenGas bottles?

Hi , new to airsoft and just got some greengas off Ebay 1100ml (AimTop PowerGreen Gas) BUT the bottle cannot hold 1100ml !!

Its capacity if filled to the brim with "liquid" gas is 830ml :blink:

So how do they get 1100ml ?

Edit: Apparently liquid Propane weighs half that of water so 1 ltr should weigh 500grams but similar companies list their 1000 ml bottles as weighing 370grams approx..

I`m sure that it expands MORE than twice its volume when going from liquid back to gas, so the 1100 ml cant be the volume of GAS.. Can it?

I`m guessing it IS the volume of the expanded gas :angry: RIPOFF...

You've hit on a good one there, mate. The figures appear to make no sense. It can't be 1.1l expanded - there's more than that in a pocket lighter ffs!

Maybe there's some kind of pressure and temperature at which it is 1.1l...?

That calculation only holds true for an actual cylinder - you have to take in to account the dish in the bottom and the dome on the top.

The expansion ratio for liquified Propane to gas is 1:270 so if the can IS in fact 830ml of liquid propane (which I doubt) it should in fact expand to 224,100ml (224.1 litres) of gas.

Bear in mind that Green Gas also contains an amount of silicone oil which will reduce the volume available for liquified gas.

It must be the expanded gas volume as the liquid gas wont fit but you may be correct that there is a "working" pressure where the volume is calculated eg: 150psi etc

I figured that the dome on the bottom roughly equates to the dome at the top so canceling each other out.

If the expansion ratio is correct then that means theres as little as 4-5 ml of actual liquified gas in the cylinder. Definately feels more than that..

Theres approx 1.8% of silicon oil.. http://www.airsoftdirect.uk.com/aim-top-power-green-gas-1100ml-172-p.asp again is that 1.8% of the liquid compressed gas or the actual gas ?

I weighed the bottle and it is the correct weight of 370g.

Will have to weigh it again when empty to solve this I guess BUT if it is 1100 ml of liquified gas then the liquid gas itself would weigh over 500g... :blink:

I think Ian is correct in that its volume is calculated at a certain pressure.

ie: the cylinder will give you 1100ml of gas at a minimum "working pressure".
