Is fuses gramatically correct...?

Anyway. Since I'm having a pretty hard time finding some connectors to use my fuse and have no space in my RIS to wire in a different type of fuse, I've been wondering if I even need a fuse?

I don't really get what a fuse is even for... Surely any motor can handle any voltage/ampage given off by anything up to a 12v battery? The motor's the only thing at risk as well, right? Everything else electronic is just wires!

Am I missing something here?

Long story short, what's the worst that could happen if I remove a fuse and what's the chance of said thing occuring once I remove the fuse?

Bear in mind I have the worst luck ever...

 
Well the fuse is there to prevent over current / voltage etc to your other parts. Its designed to break and cut off connections so the parts past the fuse dont break.

Dont run a fuse, you risk your other parts breaking.

Would usually be at risk from a dodgy battery etc. The fuse does not do anything to the voltages coming from the battery, its just a fail safe

 
No idea what the worst that could happen is- all I know is that I used to cut them out to give more battery space ;)

 
Ok, well if you guys do it, then I'm going to do it as well.

The extra space will certainly be a good thing, I'll be able to properly hide all those grotesque red wires so you can't see them through the holes in the RIS.

It'll also make rewiring take two less solder joints, which can only be a good thing.

just go on to ebay put in the numbers and letters and they should pop up normally in boxes of 10

 
They're all weird connectors, every single one of them is at 90 degrees.

They're also not marked with any numbers or letters... I've managed to find one of the three sets that I need. I've given up on looking for the fuse ones and for the motor I'm just going to hope that regular straight connectors will squidge into the space.

you could always just solder directly onto the fuse leg to miss out that right angle if it is causing you problems, or get a tube type fuse, or a mini fuse holder.

If you did end up with a battery short then you could

burn out the motor

cause the gearbox to lock up by over driving it, so new gears, possibly piston/spring etc

burn out the trigger contacts

or you may not.

 
I think that the chances of a malfunction resulting in burning the motor out and/or damaging the gearbox are pretty slim, but there's something I've seen happen that could get a lot worse...

The wiring catching fire! There is enough power in even a 7.4V 800mAh mini battery to spot weld metal parts together and this could easily happen as a result of wires being trapped between or chaffing against metal parts.

If I were you, Ed, I'd go with replacing your irritating fuse & fitting with a simple inline fuse carrier and reduce the amount of spare wire you have to exactly enough to allow the battery to be fitted or removed and no more. You don't have to put the fuse in the battery space though.

 
I haven't removed my Fuse holder and got hold of the correct Fuses quite easily (took an old one in to Electrical Wholesaler for a match up), to hide the unsightly Wires inside my RIS I put them inside a length of Heat Shrink Tube but didn't shrink it making it easy to remove when required.

Y'know, it never occured to me to do that haha, am I mentally handicapped or what? That's a good suggestion, I think I'll make good on it.

on most of my guns ive took the fuse outand never had a problem

 
Well, I've never blown a fuse, so I imagine the chance of a motor burn out or circuit failure actually happening must be in the tiniest margin of possibility ever... I might just risk it...

But then, I'm really unlucky when it comes to things like this... But I could do with the extra space from missing it out.

AARRRRGGGHHHHH!

Y'know what? I think I'll stick with the stock wiring and just change the connectors to Deans ahaha.

I've never had a blown fuse, but personally i've always been a belts and brace's type of guy, as many redundancies as possible.
