Because the DVLA stopped doing all commercial tests for 3 weeks to help flatten the curve, 79 weeks ago.  People have paid for training and are gagging to get started, but can't get their piece of paper.  Oh, and now the examiners are going on strike after being asked to do more tests per day to deal with the backlog.

Despite, not because of.

My current employer a British Airline might not be the most stable of jobs so I enquired about HGV training and the 2 companies I spoke to both are fully booked up until the New year for New Pupils 

 
Not strictly on-topic either, but I've had another AliExpress order that looks like it's not even going to make it out of Chinaland.

First a stock, now an M4 pistol grip, I'm starting to think that they're blocking assault-toy related parts at source rather than letting HMRC / Border Force have all the fun.  I've had plenty of fans, motors, switches and such make it through without problems in the meantime.

 
Fwiw, I had a pair of scope rings that were ordered late June and sat in China until early September when they finally left and were delivered a few days after.  Could just be some sellers are crap.  I've found that to be unusual though.

 
Noticing increasingly long lead times on all manner of items, caused by global logistics issues which in turn were caused by almost two years of disruption whilst the world was stopped for a virus.

Shipping container prices have increased by multiple factors, constraining supply and increasing costs massively. Meanwhile idiot lockdown-obsessed governments all over the world are learning the hard way that you can't just turn business and logistics on-and-off like a tap. Things take time to ramp up up again after such sudden and unusual disruption.

UK-specific issues adding to the mix include Border Farce and the HMRC/Civil Serpent leeches, an aviation industry still recovering from paralysis whilst simultaneously being hammered by Boris' green bollocks, road transport issues caused by state incompetence and corporate greed (shit wages/Ts&Cs) and an entirely manufactured fuel supply "crisis" that has literally been invented from thin air.

These issues will continue for some time.

It almost feels like they're deliberate, doesn't it?  Still, mustn't theorise, or conspire.

Oh, good news, my pistol grip has now made it to the UK, so I can hopefully bin off the awful Specna grip soon.  I await my door being kicked in by a firearms unit firearms declaration demand.

 
Yep it's deliberate all right.

1) Certain elements of industry with unsustainable/unrealistic business models are unhappy that their support of endless cheap labour has been staved off. E.g. the haulage industry (driven by the likes of Hoyer). Therefore the present manufactured "crisis" has been weaponised in an attempt to force a change in policy.

2) Government fuck-ups in all areas of life due to genuine catastrophic bungling incompetence having a knock-on affect in... all areas of life.

3) China wants to rule the world.

4) The media craving to make news and policy rather than just report it.

 
Some good news on the Taiwangun situation.

I've been contacted by TG today to ask if I would take part in a pilot shipping to the UK using DHL, given I have an order that's been sat in my account for months (a couple of CYMA RIFS for Nam' themed games, plus a few other bits and bobs).  No details as yet on postage costs, or whether TG are registering for VAT payment at source (which I doubt), plus they seemed very cautious in their correspondence, making the point they wanted to make sure the process is better than UPS before opening up to orders again to the UK.  Given the experiences many of us have had on the forum and some of the financial losses that TG have taken, I think this is sensible and understandable.

In my experience DHL have been infinitely better at parcel delivery post-Brexit, so I think this is a really positive step by TG.  Hopefully I should get the order finalized this week, so I'll keep the forum posted on progress.  

If we are lucky they may open up orders before Christmas, which I think is probably a motivating factor for TG.

Qualified good news, they could set up a trebuchet at Zeebrugge and it would still be a better bet than UPS.

I'm minded to still not risk it though until they're charging VAT and duty at source so that we can see and pay the whole cost up front, and not risk it languishing in Customs while the biggest mob in town decides what protection money they want paying.

With Wintervalmass coming up, this might become more of a consideration, rather than less.

 
DHL though, that's gonna sting for sure.  I asked one broker last week to quote me 60kg (non rifs) from HK and got back £1350.000 lol...Hopefully they have negotiated a decent rate, however DHL are firmly in the won't ship replica camp so not sure what they can do about that.

I understand it peaks about now thanks to Wintervalmass.  And as above , this is exactly when I wouldn't want to risk trying a new, unknown courier.  Although even if DHL just lose or scrap half the shipments out of hand... is that worse than UPS?

I wonder if that's specifically from the Orient, or if they're not wanting to touch EU to UK either.

Hopefully Taiwan Gun are being honest in the declarations. We've seen examples of Border Farce getting their handbags in a twist over mis-declared RIFs, which is something that we've got no control over.

Hmm, on the second time of trying, it appears that I've had a solid M4 stock not even make it out of China again.  From what I can make out from the AliExpress tracking, it's been rattling round inside China, was returned (twice, apparently) and has been sent out again.

I know some folk have had gear come through OK, but I'm having patchy luck.  No idea why, or what's triggering it (badum tsssh).

I just received a pistol from KYAirsoft but it took 23 days to get here. (They're in HK not China tho)

Blimey, can't even get some camo gear from Germany.  The seller returned my money and said that he had simply had too much stuff sitting on UK customs.  

Real shame as Russian surplus is cheaper by far over there.
