I can agree.

Walked into my local countrywide store to buy some work boots. Saw they had a gun corner so went in and had a look.

Plenty of realistic firearms around, including p99s, ppks, revolvers and rugers etc.

None of these, despite being very good replicas and firing much higher than an airsoft gun fall under the RIF category and require a valid defense.

I know, I came into airsoft from casual air gun shooting and was appalled at how stupid it was. I'd had two perfect P99 replicas as air guns, which both fired metal pellets at over 360fps out to about 40m with pretty good accuracy and couldn't believe how idiotic all the airsoft related laws were.

I still can't.

Two tones just shouldn't exist in my opinion, I've said it a million times, but I think they negate the whole point of the VCRA, how can it reduce violent crime, when it openly gives criminally minded mongs the option to forgo all the trust relationship based UKARA stuff and just buy a gun that's half green and some black paint?

Or even, paint a real gun half green to get one up on the Police. It's completely stupid. Especially when, if someone really wanted to buy a powerful, cheap, replica gun to do someone harm, they could just buy one of the air pistols I used to have for less than £100.

About 15yrs ago I happened to have a water pistol in my pocket one time I got arrested for something completely unrelated. Now bear in mind here that this thing was shaped like a WWI stylee Webley revolver, but scaled smaller, just moulded crappy black plastic with a red tip - you could have clearly seen that it wasn't a real gun at at least 20m even without the red tip.

Throughout the entire interview process which ensued, including several goes around the old 'you may as well tell us, because we already know vs wasn't me' since I was detained overnight, the old bill referred to this 99p water pistol as "The Firearm".

:lol: I swear. Even my solicitor, whom was not happy to have to be there so late, couldn't keep a straight face...

The law is an ass. The VCRA is a particularly odious example. Something we have to consider though, my friends, is what will happen if an incident occurs which makes the amount of effort required to actually change a law seem worthwhile. When have you ever seen control voluntarily relinquished? This is the main reason I joined UKAPU, to lend my two pen'orth just in case it looks like we'll get slapped with worse...

I'm still flabbergasted at why the two tone law exists,In Ireland we only have one regulation which is the under 1 joule limit,and all other standard laws for guns(proper storage,no use in public areas etc..) Very little crime happens with airsoft guns.

VCRA for airsoft does nothing,what's stopping me from buying some black krylon,robbing Auntie Irma's newsagent and running off? All it does is make one a silly target for skirmishes.

Air guns are much deadlier,some models can even kill somebody,yet regulations on them are much more relaxed. Why? they also look like real guns.

I'm pretty sure that the term realistic imitation firearm covers everything that is an imitation and looks like a firearm. Ergo, really your 2 P99 air pistols should be covered by the vcra, as should all of the other realistic looking air pistols and rifles that you can buy.

High powered air rifles are another matter entirely as they'll generally require a FAC which is a lot harder to get than a skirmisher's defence.

The UKARA thing does annoy me a bit as it makes out that its the only defense or even that you need it as some kind of license to get RIFs which for new players (i felt the same when i started) is very confusing and possibly off putting. Also the way you have to pay to gain that particular defense is ridiculous, one should and in theory can say here is me skirmishing on a regular basis via photos or site bookings etc etc and that is as much a valid defense as the UKARA

whilst it didsnt bother me, some peoples experiences with rental guns,/ the thought of them, just made them go out and buy their own 2 toned due to heavy use rentals arnt the best guns. didnt bother me but hten i go by volume of fire even now...

And it's not exactly hard to remove the paint anyway (Good old Fairly Power Shot) So the laws ridicuolus!
