would there be any point going for the Umarex as it has the exact same specifications as the Well R4 but for about £20 more

They're as bad as each other.

If you have to get an AEG MP7 then get a TM.

Even better, get a gas MP7 - TM, KSC and KWA/Umarex are all good on that front

They're more than as bad as each other, they're the same gun. The UMAREX is the Well, just with H&K trademarks added onto it.

Thanks Ed, I was wondering who the actual original manufacturer of the 'Umarex' version is.

For future reference OP, Umarex are effectively just a company that repackage guns made by other companies. Umarex has acquired the licensing rights to a lot of real steel companies, such as H&K, so in this case you're being asked to pay more for the same gun just to have trades on it. The original gun is still a Well however, and therefore not very good.

Are you saying all Umarex licensed guns are bad? My impression was that the H&K 416/417`s made by VFC were pretty good? Having just bought one, I hope that`s the case :/......reviews all seem pretty good

No. It really depends on the original manufacturer. It's just a way for Umarex to make money by sticking licensed trades on someone else's product and selling it as their own, They've no real interest in what they sell, just in making back the money they paid the real steel manufacturers for the licence to use their trademarks.

The big thing I hate about them(Aside from being massive corporate dicks) is that they always have a big ugly paragraph on their guns, dubbed,''the Umarex Paragraph''

This may have changed recently though.

It's on most of then though the size of it varies. One of the 416 batches has text comparable in length to the bible on its magwell.

My G36 has a very small paragraph.

Text is tiny too. hard to really read unless up close so doesnt really ruin the look.

I've crayoned the rest of the trades in white too so it kinda suits the rest of look anyway.

Those AEP batteries are only 700 mAh at best so they won't last long and they also have that weird connection and it needs to be wall charged. Just get a GBB.

The umarex brand from what i have tested (air guns) were all quite good simple to use, great starter gun. But seems like they missed a good one in the airsoft market!

Who makes it? Im guessing its S&T which would be a bit hit and miss. A cheaper ARES if you will.

My G36 is S&T and has had a few problems but is pretty solid otherwise.

The Oomarecks UMP isn't very good,I've read that is feels cheap and weak and does not shoot very well. Dunno, never shot one or saw one, only UMP I ever saw is the G&G one.

G&G UMG seems to be the only decent UMP available.

It could be one of four: ares, ca, double eagle or g&g. Most likely ares.
