Transporting your RIFs (and gear) to and from games (and retailers / techs / comicons / your mates house, should include common sense, but there’s always that guy

Bag it and keep it bagged - even stepping out of your door to your car on the drive. Your neighbour might know you and your hobby, but not necessarily the random person passing by
If you don’t have any form of baggage then cover it up - a team mate bought a rifle while we were at a game, too long for his bag, and to make things worse the group had met up at the motorway services and left some cars parked up for the day. That meant on the way back we were dropped off on the other side with the need to walk back across the footbridge. We put it down the leg of a pair of trousers and wrapped around more clothing - just a mildly suspicious package carried across
Don’t lay uncovered guns on the backseat - not only does that mean it’s openly carried to / from the vehicle, but it’s visible through the window to anyone passing (and to the McDonalds drive in windows)
Don’t “solve” the problem of back seat visibility by putting it in the boot - and then opening the boot at the motorway services
Think about the rest of your gear - don’t look like you might a gun nut wandering around in public
Also don’t look like a soldier wandering around in public - you could unwittingly make yourself look like a target (a partially uniformed “soldier” not paying attention to the surroundings is an opportunist target)
A proper gun case or gun bag is a good thing. But is best suited for your own transport. Anonymous baggage is better for public transport
I’ve often used a snowboard bag, typically guns in gun bags which are then inside the snowboard bag. An easy way to carry 2 or 3 gun bags all in one and thrown over my shoulder.
Sports holdalls are great, and work for the rest of your gear too. If they are wheeled then you’re winning
If your gun is short enough or dismantled then a Stanley tool case becomes multifunctional as baggage, seat, maintenance bench
Pistols and SMGs should fit a briefcase or laptop bag
Backpacks work too
Note that a few backpacks (especially paintball branded ones) are capable of strapping a gun under a flap / were marketed to carry in a similar way to skateboards strapped to a backpack
Don’t do that
If you have no other baggage you could just use the original packaging. But think about the box artwork. A box with a picture of a gun is marginally better than just carrying the gun, but consider a bing bag around it
