I understand that it is in the nature of ABS to become shiny quite quickly, and that there aren 't really any fixes for it except painting and repainting.

There are plenty of slide kits for TM pistols but not many polymer custom frames. Guarder has plenty for TM Glocks, but that's about it. For other pistols like HKs there doesn't seem to be anything.

So do owners just have to use paint or put up with shiny plastic?

They work better with the standard plastic slides, so yes. They don't really tend to go that shiny in all fairness.

Thanks for the reply.

They are indeed best with their plastic slides.

They go shiny through holster wear , oil and grease , not from sitting on a shelf .

The newer ones don't tend to go as shiny in my experience. The only TMS of mine that have gone shiny are my hicapas

It used to happen quite easily, the plastic has gotten better over the years.

The 'joy' of not-shiny plastic will usually be quickly lost through the annoyance of lowered performance.  Unless you seriously know what you're doing or get very lucky with airsoft tolerances.

When you say "lower performance" don't you really mean lower power?

Very few metal airsoft pistols have the performance or reliability of TM guns. Plastic pistols are fine over 10 to 20 yards (even thirty). That is the sort of range that even  real pistols are designed for.

Not everybody can shoot like Hickok 45.

He's a right old character.talk about back garden shooting. Lol

No, absolutely not, or I'd have said lower muzzle energy.  I mean slower cycling, slide binding, more friction between almost any related component, less gas efficiency etc etc.

Slower cycling? Less gas efficiency?

Your experience has been very different from mine.

An ABS slide will cycle quicker than a heavier metal one.  To quote Scottie from Star Trek "Ya canne change the laws of physics"

A quality Aluminium slide can actually be lighter than the polymer ones, so if you get it properly fitted you can get the best of both worlds.  I am of coarse talking expensive aftermarket slides not pot metal crap that comes on guns like WE / KWA / Raven  etc etc.
