Striped Screw

Silly Me has messed up a screw and ended up stripping it while it’s inside a stock tube, it’s connected to the lower receiver and the gear box.

Worse case scenario I can live without most parts of the rif which may get damaged but I need to save this gearbox. It’s the single most expensive part of the whole rif.

Any recommendations on what to do next ?

Local tecs in Brighton, hove or surrounding area would be helpful as I don’t want to mess anything elce up.

The joy .. , my self I would get a long decent driver with an elastic band etc or a torx bit . The screw should not be that tight , some stock tubes use the castle nut to bite down see if that can be backed off also

When you say that you have stripped it, do you mean that you have stripped the thread or that you have messed up the head of the screw?

If the former, glue a Philips screwdriver to it and unscrew it while pulling it backwards out of the stock tube.

If the latter, glue a Philips screwdriver to it and unscrew it.

Thanks, Yhh the only 2 drivers I have that are long enough to get in there both spin tried to use flats for a bit more grip and both broke. The ones that are Philips make it worse by gnawing up the metal more. Heard a lot about the band trick haven’t got one on hand atm.
Doesn't have a castle nut in the tube.

Could have potentially stripped the thread in the process but I am originally referring to the screw head. In the post.
The amount of force I can get on it before it starts turning and messing it up more, would surely be more force than needed to break the seal on the glue I’m not sure it would help me do anything more.

Plus the idea of adding glue seems like asking for more issues given my track record with these kinds things

* try a screw extractor on it, though expect it's a cheap alloy screw so may not bite.
* drill the head clean off. Remove the stock and then get a set of grips on the now exposed remains of the screw and undo it that way.
* realise both the above have failed, that I've completely fucked it and start shopping for a new gun.

If I was to saw the screw to remove the stock / buffer tube from the lower receiver. Do you think that the opening of the gear box would permit a way to get the screw out of the back of spring guide? Can that bit be replaced. The small circle part where the screw meets the gearbox

If you can saw the screw, do so. If you can then either get a set of mole grips on it or cut a slot in the top of it, try unscrewing it. Otherwise, open the gearbox and change the spring guide. However, that might be a quick change spring; if it is, you can just pop it out once the stock tube is out of the way.

Yes it’s a gatee eon gearbox, I’m not 100% but I think it has a “ quick change “ does that mean where the screw from the buffer tube or stock meets the gear box is replaceable?

Yes, the screw will go into a spring guide which can be removed through the back of the gearbox.
