So guys,, what stuff do you wear for head and face protection?

Grrr

Constant issue for me: I will have to find something that offers good protection but also does not make me sweat too much. I'm cursed with being a very warm person so a neoprene head covering will have me over heating too quickly.

decisions & more decisions

 Just noticed the ad choices this thread brings up

The answer has been staring us in the face the whole time. Muslim/Islamic wear!

just get a decent ventilated paintball mask, Dye do a good selection as do Save Phace.

My shemagh is for protecting my neck, I've been shot in the neck too many times and it hurts like a b*tch.

I'd rather my neck can sweat freely and cool me so I might have some chance of moving out of the way, rather than being limited by gasping on the edge of heatstroke... besides, unless it's right in the adam's apple, neck hits don't hurt that much. Not as much as finger hits, for eg.

Where did you get that all from? and how much did it cost?
Amazon/ebay.

Altogether with delivery it's about £65-£70. I don't use the mesh goggles, I tried them and didn't like them and prefer glasses.

Currently in the process of modding a mesh mash to fit my face while wearing a FAST helmet, mesh goggles and also allowing my sordins. Will post on here once I figure it all out!

Ah thanks do you remember the names of all of it?

It's a poor show that I cannot see pictures on forums at work but when I got home last night I saw the helmet idea that Mr Vimto uses & think that a belting idea.

Just out of interest has anyone tried the base jump helmets with the goggles built in ? are they good or are they crap ?

My thinking is the mask attached to the helmet with the built in glasses may be a way forward.

Think I saw them on Airsoft GI's youtube channel. The visors look cool but are not suitable as eye protection, you would want to wear additional eye pro underneath.

Yeh I was thinking that maybe a second layer just in case but it's a risk buying a helmet & the visor smashes your kind of wasted cash for nowt

Someone on another forum did a test on the helmets with built in visors, a BB went clean through at 400fps, definitely NOT safe for skirmishing.

Another one to copy my helmet! Lol

The mesh mask is just a normal 1 strap mask you can get anywhere. The helmet comes with the small clamps and I just cut the strap on the mask and fitted it. Just attach some padding to it and its so much more comfy than having straps running on top of your head.

The goggle straps on the back of the helmet I got from;

I was a bit weary buying from them as nobody else had heard of them. They were brilliant, I had the straps in 2 days.

The goggles didn't quite fit perfectly. The design of them had a little lip that came too low on the cheek. I chopped that off and as you can see they fit really well if you wanted to use goggles. Other than the lip the goggles are good as they aren't bulking, they are very low profile on your face.

I think that's everything? Sorry if I rambled on a bit :)

This is what we need: hard evidence. Have you got a linky for that, James?

I saw it too, will see if I can find it- though it was on arnies, so you'll have to make an account if you haven't already.

And if you don't have an account:

The visor is meant for a specific helmet, not the FAST bump, so it would need custom brackets for the hinge points. All I've done is pry the foam lining at the front of my FAST bump out and wedge the lens firmly between that and the outer shell. There's no "seal" at the bottom, so an overscrupulous game official could disallow it on that basis, but due to the size of the visor and overlap with my face mask there's no path a BB could take to reach an eye. I'd have no qualms using it IF the lens was capable of stopping BBs, and to that end I bought a spare for destructive testing.

I was going to test it all the way up to 3J, but a .25g BB at 1.2 joules went through like butter, leaving a nice round hole. Two more rounds shattered the the Emerson visor into several pieces:

I can't say I was shocked, but plenty of cheap polycarb eyepro is made in China, there're really no excuse for marketing something this dangerous to airsofters. I guess I'll be looking at motorcycle helmet visors now.

Thanks Marcus. That really is pants.

What percentage of people do we think have the foresight to check out helmet/visor combos on forums before buying, compared to those who just buy?
