Sending guns?

Just wondering how you guys send your guns (once sold through the Classifieds) to people.

Can you send it through Royal Mail? I heard a while back that you couldn't and they've said they won't ship imitation firearms, understandable but if not I will have to look into how to organize to post via a courier.

I went into my local post office and they said what's in the box so i said a head, all jokes aside if you go into your local post they should ask what's in the package and i said an airsoft pistol so they called the manager and he ok'd it so i was able to send it via royal mail.

Guns for sporting use
Guns intended for sporting purposes - including Section 1 (e.g. hunting rifles) and Section 2 (e.g. shotguns) firearms, low-powered air weapons and their component parts - may be sent in compliance with UK law and subject to domestic controls on the possession of firearms. Antiques, deactivated and imitation firearms are also permitted. When sending deactivated firearms include proof of deactivation.
Items that appear to be prohibited weapons may be subject to additional checks and delays. Please see www.royalmail.com/prohibitedgoods (RIF's are not prohibited at all for being RIF's, but certain batteries can be)

Use 1st Class as the minimum service. The sender’s name and address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging.

as a counter to what Ian just quoted, DO NOT USE 1ST CLASS. It's only insured for £28 or something daft and you'll be lucky if you get more than a book of stamps and a sorry if it's lost.

Parcelforce 24 is the service I use, and I make sure I declare the as new value of the gun when I ship it so if it gets lost I'm insured for enough to buy a replacement.

That, and you'll want the tracking and signature to be 100% certain your pride and joy has arrived on time and in the right place.

always get proof of delivery if its expensive, I once had someone put in a paypal claim saying item didnt arrive when I sent 1st class (might not have but more than likely did) and I was out of pocket

I just quoted the RM webby. It says use 1st Class as minimum service - if you use 1st or 2nd Class Signed For you get a tracking number, insurance up to £50 as standard, and a siggy as proof of delivery. I just used RM Special Delivery to send Phatima's front sight/gas block through the post cos fuck losing that! £6.95 iirc and i put it bubblewrapped within an inch of its life in a box not much smaller than a shoe box, on the grounds that a bigger box is harder to lose than the tiddler in which it would have fit...

I used TNT. They offered a good service by collecting the parcel from my house so no need for an awkward trip to the post office and it's easily tracked online. I sent a G&P M4, full metal body with accessories in the box for £15. They have no issue sending Airsoft weapons, but would advise to plaster your UKARA number on the consignment notes so it's clearly visible.
