Just starting out in the world of Airsoft and have only been a few times but have certainly caught the bug!!

Only slight frustration has been the constant "Baghdad unloads" by many on the field which precludes any form of decent fire and movement tactics. Surely a key element of the game ( if that's the right analogy) is one of emulation of realistic tactics (to a degree) not just he who can put down the most rounds!!

We call those guys "high-cap heroes".

Depends on how you want to play. Some like just throwing tactics and performance efficiency out the window and just going for kills, no matter how easy or lazy it may be.

I personally like the tactical side. I run GBB guns mostly anyway so i'm limited to real capacity magazines. I'm forced to aim and take care of ammo. That's what I love about the game.

If there is a spray of bbs going over your head, you don't put your head up much as people hate the unrealistic side of it it's a tactic

As much as i hate high caps and have never used one.........The spray and pray players have paid the same as anyone else to play so they can play in what ever manner they want.

The tactics comes in by sneaking around behind them and double tapping them in the back.

Have you tried the more serious Mil Sim events? You should find it has a more tactical feel to it.

And generally more expensive, and less frequent and typically miles away if you live anywhere north of about, Lizard Point.

I play walk on days the same as I would a MilSim and get on fine. Not being able to effectively surpress people can be a killer at times, but there are ways around it if you have a good team.

I can only play the walk on days anyway as I can't drive and the only sites near me are mainly CQB, so having a MilSim event is something that doesn't really happen. I still try to be as tactical as possible though. My last Woodland skirmish was a nice tactical skirmish and pretty cheap too!

I have both hi caps and low caps in my loadout. Although personally I prefer using low caps and the fun/terror have having to reload mid firefight, I also pack some high caps for when there is a quick turn around between games and I can't be bothered to reload loads of mags. I quite like the American competitive airsoft rules which assign players a class (sniper, support etc.) this determines how many mags and rounds they can carry as well as types of guns.

I use low mid and high caps - the high caps are reserve these days, unless I need to suppress a bunch of people. The low caps are because they were advertised as 50rnd but actually only hold 28-30.

I understand the frustration with "high cap heroes", but at the same time, BB's are not bullets. It's difficult to determine a realistic ratio, but we can say for sure that bullets would penetrate an awful lot of the stuff we use as cover, so it takes more BB's to get a hit than it does bullets.

I remember one time I was hiding behind some leafy undergrowth. There were 4-5 enemy firing at me. They couldn't actually see me because I was wearing DPM, but they knew pretty much where I was because I'd shot people from there a few times but had been unable to move. It took them ages to actually hit me. Fair enough, once I was completely cornered, I lay prone to present less of a target, but if they had been firing bullets the 1st burst would have riddled me.

There's also the psychological difference to consider. It's been said that the AK-47 democratised warfare, because it's cheap and with it, an 8yr old child can make a company of soldiers keep their heads down... because it doesn't matter that you know that s/he only has 30rnds before they have to change mag, the consequences of being hit once are likely to be life changing/ending. Perhaps high caps simply recreate the proper tactical situation...

as a high cap player(for now) a long buzz of fire is just much more fun. and i find that if you see a group of people and fire single shots, the dont duck and cover, but they do when you fire lots of bbs in their direction. if they responded like they should when you start firing then likely i would not have to be so trigger happy. dont forget lots of people are into this sport form different views and looking for ways of play, be it concentrating on your tactics, riddling people for stress relief(not to the stupid play level of course) being a distraction and hero for your mates, etc. matching how you play against different styles of play when you come across them is the real trick, or sometimes when the game becomes rock paper scissors(though to lesser extent than rps ofc ourse...

I've only ever had high caps but that's probably more due to budget and the fact I don't wear any load carrying equipment (yet...) I just have to put the stuff in my pockets. Although there are different styles of play with high caps - for example I use them but I only stick to single shot. I hardly ever go fully auto, which I guess doesn't make me a 'high cap hero'.

I love suppressive fire with support weapons or rifles i dont know why but its so fun to fire long bursts down at the enemy and see them hit the deck,in some cases its more fun than the actual hits but of course being a sniper i love tactics just as much especially sneaking behind the enemies and shooting them one by one without detection but its a lot easier to have fun with suppressive fire so let the hi cap players have they're fun

Suppressive fire is always helpful from support gunners but at least with high caps you know when they have to wind up so that's when you pick your shots. I use mid caps and will never go back especially being caught out with the flash mags giving away my position and my team mates, to their frustration.

I can overkill and spray a lot but then again I do play in a support gunner role. I don't run around randomly hosing areas like a high cap hero but rather set up and lay sustained fire on a location as someone in a support gunner role would do.

When I used to have my Masada I ran mids as they are actually all round better than high caps even for getting a lot of rounds down range.

But as for tactics in my experience if a team employs good tactics then they are more likey to win. I played with a guy who was of the high cap hero type and he rarely did anything that helped the team out just walked around shooting bushes

I'm a relative newbie here but am finding that my style of play is generally to stay semi auto or use short bursts. I have, however, been known to have a small sense of humour failure over one person in particular at my local woodland site who needs a bit of encouragement to take a hit and do find that an extended burst of full auto helps with such people.............

Well, since I use a spring sniper and a GBB Glock, It's impossible for me to be a spray and prayer.

Normally when I have an AEG (I use a friends AEG or a hire gun if the marshals are being nice :lol: ), I use similar tactics to when I snipe, get within a nice distance of an enemy, and wait until I have a clear shot on the target. Spraying is just awful, unless you're actually trying to suppress enemies if a player needs a medic, for example.

I loved my GBBR but th weather meant i could hardly use it, and constantly buying hand warmers to prep my mags was getting anoying, do miss the realism i got from my gbb.

I tend to run midcaps as always simply because they are cheap to get hold of in bulk. But im the same with airsoft and paintball, although at the moment i havnt dne much paintball as alot of fields like to force every one onto a speedball game which i hate, and is a bit of a letdown as i play limited ammo in my milsim sports so im always at an automatic disadvantage.

OMG i remember the last time i played speed ball (almost 15years ago), i had broke my gun earlier, and was using some polycarb one called "swordfish" it was mega accurate so i was sniping with it, this speed ball was a tiny area with tyres stacked 4 high .... i aimed for a players head .... shot ... he ducked .... the marshal behind him took the paint ball right in the nuts .... i almost died of laughing :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Some marshalls enforce a rule of how long a non support weapon can be fired for. My local usually tell us to stop shooting after 3 seconds of continued fire because if you havent hit anything by that time... You're probably not going to. Never seen anyone run any LMGs anyways so I don't really know what it's like to encounter a high cap hero. If you want suppressive fire on a location get a few buddies and take it in turns. Way more fun and you use less BBs overall
