Removing El Ak74 Handguard

So I've bought a black railed handguard and foregrip for my E&L but no matter how much force or technique I use it wont come off! 

I've flipped the lever beside the sight, I've tried prying it with a screwdriver after countless attempts of pulling it off by hand.

Any owners of an AK have the same issue?

Have you ensured the lever is at the correct angle to allow the top side of the fore grip to come off?

In the below tutorial it seems to be the 10:30 - 11 o'clock position required to remove it - perhaps you twisted it too far or not enough?
