reactions to airsoft

I had to explain airsoft at work on Friday to a guy who questioned why I had a shemagh in my rucksack. I went with " It's like paintball but not sh*t". That seemed to get the point across.

I had "really, playing soliders, you wouldn't get a real solider doing that" from someone working in the MoD. I then informed about the number of people in active service in the armed services that I have met through airsoft and they went a bit quite.
I'm an infantry soldier, and the site I play on is a mix of infantry and other regiments/ corps and veterans, if someone gets a "sad on" over people wanting to run round like lunatics pelting the living daylights out of each other, they're clearly the people with the issue. It's a lot sadder having a dig at someone over what they do for fun on a weekend.

Whenever people asked me what I do at weekends I have to explain, it's like paintball but more realistic. It's a form of military simulation ( but no really strict) and we use high powered bb guns

My work mates repsonses are usually somethine like "Why don't you just join the army and go to Afghan".
If the amount of times I get shot on a weekend is anything to go by I would be dead in 5 minutes.

I accept the fact that to the outside world I am cosplaying solder with toy guns. In my head their is something else going on, but mostly nowdays to the people who know I play I just claim its about getting fit and not mention the gun collection that is steadily growing.

I have no qualms about telling people that it's basically dressing up and playing war for fun, because unlike some blokes, I'm prepared to admit that we never grow up. I don't really give a crap about what anyone thinks about any of my activities, I'm doing them because I like it, and I'd never be so insecure as to feel the need to seek approval for anything I do from anyone. If they don't like it, great, if they do, I'll tell em more
