Prescription lenses for goggles

After 3-4 years of skirmishing with my glasses on, and trying pretty much every anti-fog product under the sun, I've decided I might like to try something different.

I've seen a few adverts for various ballistic goggles or glasses which can be tailored to my needs - instead of generic lenses, they have your own prescription lenses put in.

My question is - has anyone tried this kind of thing, and are they worth it? I've seen prices ranging from £80 to about £200 for this type of service so naturally, I'm hesitant to spending that kind of money on something useless... Also, knowing who to go to and who to avoid would be useful.

Without sufficient air flow both glasses and goggles will still fog up, whether with plain or prescription lenses. I usually use Guarder shooting glasses with a prescription lens insert behind the main wrap around lens, but always use anti-fog on both the prescription lens insert & the inside of the wrap around. Depending on conditions it might last all day or require a couple of reapplications during a game (I use FogTech from Airsoft World or an anti fog spray I bought from the Opticians). One game at F&O Outpost (The Tunnels) it was so damp in there that nothing would stop the lenses fogging after only a couple of minutes of play.

The lens inserts cost me about £70 fitted to the frame that came with the shooting glasses. The insert does push the wrap around away from your face, so does leave a small gap that a BB could find its way through, although I've not had any problems as yet.

One way around might be to get a pair of the goggles with a fitted fan, then look at getting a pair of prescription lenses made for them in a safety glass material, so that you retain the safety aspect of the lenses, although no idea what that would cost.

Use something like Fog Tech or Cat Crap on the inside of the lenses of your glasses, not just on the goggles. That should do it.

Give it a couple of years and you won't have to worry about it, MIT have made a glare, dust and fog free glass

These are the ones I have. I just took the prescription insert to Specsavers and got them to send it off to have the lenses made up and installed.

Cost about £75 all together, but that included an eye test and anti glare on them; if you already use them and don't want to go for that, I imagine it might cost a little less.

It took about two weeks all in all, I think.

You can go with ESS, they sell inserts for their v12 goggles and ICE glasses. I think the inserts just take normal prescription lenses and clip behind those of the goggles or glasses
