One shot - dead.

Ok, so as above my mate has a JG G3 and there's something weird up with it.

Last time we took it skirmishing it just stopped working dead, nothing unusual surrounding the incident, it just stopped for no reason.

I've just had it to bits because we thought the trigger contacts, wiring, or the motor might be faulty, checked them all and everything was fine. Checked the circuit and the motor apart from the gearbox and it's all fine, spun the gears with the piston and checked all that was working.

All fine so far.

So we re-assembled it, but when we came to firing it, it fired one shot and then just died.

No noise from the motor at all, no response of any kind whatsoever, it's like a battery isn't attached.

It's got to be a mechanical fault because we checked the circuit and the motor and it was all fine... So what the hell could it be?

Anyone got any ideas?

sounds like a lock up so check shims and bushes,i had one that did similar.no response just sat their

It fired one shot though, so it can't be the bearings or shims and nothing changed on the inside, prior to the last skirmish it was completely fine, must've been through a good 10000 rounds or so prior to this happening without any faults at all.

Really can't understand it.

I can now add that dismantling and re assembling the gearbox results in the same outcome every time.

One pull of the trigger and the gun's dead.

However, if the pull of the trigger is done on auto, then it works on auto fine.

I think it's something to do with the cut off lever, but I can't understand why a cut off lever problem would result in the gun being completely dead after one pull of the trigger on semi.

Additionally, if you fire on auto and then switch to semi and fire, the gun doesn't respond. It just dies as before. Switching back to auto does not fix it, it remains dead.

I had a similar problem with a mate's SRC M4 a while back. It turned out one of the guide rails for the trigger contact had snapped, you'd have to look to know it was broken. Remove all the innards and inspect the gearbox case.

I've had a similar problem with V2 gearbox trigger switches on a gearbox I was building. When used on semi the cutoff lever moved the sliding trigger contact up and out of contact with the two front contacts but the spring didn't pull the moving contact back far enough and down so that the cutout on the sliding contact was in line for the top of the trigger to move it back forward again once pulled. If I put it into auto it fired fine, until you released the trigger, which again the sliding contact came back but didn't drop down, so again the top of the trigger wasn't in contact. I tried loads of different ways to get it to work, including a stronger sliding trigger contact return spring but nothing much worked until I bought a new Guarder V2 trigger contact set and that sorted it.

Ok.

So the easiest way around it would be to just completely replace the trigger mechanism... Do you know if any/all trigger mech's will work in any/all V2 gearboxes or will I need to get one specific to the JG G3?

I believe they're pretty much all compatible. I've done some research as I was going to get a G3, the differences are nozzle, selector plate, trigger (the actual trigger itself) and I think the tappet plate too. Other than those, they're the same.

I was hoping I could avoid dismantling the trigger mech because I think it's the most annoying part of the whole gun to put back together, but I guess once I've done it I'll be able to see if that's really what the issue is.

If you want to check it without all the hassle of taking the V2 gearbox apart and rebuilding, try taking out everything but the trigger switch and trigger and testing like that. You can connect a battery and run the motor wires to the motor (clamp it in a vice so that it doesn't jump all over the place) and pulling the trigger will then either give you good connections and spin the motor or will give the same problem but without the semi cutoff lever operating as it's obviously not going to be moved by the gears. If you are really having problems, just try using the left hand (bottom) half of the gearbox case with the trigger and contacts in place (you may need a spare p[air of hands to help keep the parts in place), so you can see if anything isn't doing what it's supposed to. Oh, and if you do buy a new trigger switch, make sure you wipe all the contact faces as they put a coating on them to keep them clean that can stop the flow of electrons, making you think the switch isn't working.

I did test the trigger with the gearbox open to test the circuit and it span the motor fine.

That's what makes me think the trigger is alright and it's something to do with the cut off lever. I just can't understand why the cutoff lever would cut-off ALL following shots regardless of fire mode after the first trigger pull.

It's not like the piston is getting jammed or anything. There's one full cycle and then a complete weapon failure.

I'm fairly certain the issue is mechanical though, my finger points to the cut off lever, I just really can't explain how it's causing the issue.
