Noob question

I think this is a normal problem with gas pistols, so call me a noob .... "You're a NOOB!!" .... but I have accidently pressed the hammer in twice in on my ASG MK23 socom pistol and expended all the gas or most of it.

I say normal as I can't see anyway around the design of the trigger/hammer mechanism apart from always having the hammer safety catch on, the problem being it always half cocked and ready to shoot with a pellet in the chamber which I don't think is good for storage or in a safety area.

Anyone found a different workaround or jury-rig ?

A barrel blocker / barrel condom (properly fitted) will prevent accidental discharge

Removing the magazine and firing to ensure there’s nothing left in there will mean there’s nothing to be shot

I have had a similar issue with the MK23, but only when in the game area - e.g. bending down and somehow pressing the hammer in when it's holstered. It should never be an issue for you in the safe area, as your magazine should always be removed from the pistol anyhow. I use a DTD holster for the MK23 when playing which effectively blocks the trigger, so for me i simply have got into a discipline of cocking the hammer back before a game starts+ after using the pistol during a game.

As above, the only time you should ever have a mag in it is when you're in the game zone.  Any decent site should be telling you this, regularly reminding you of it, and actively checking magwells on entering the safe zone - otherwise it's not safe in any sense.

Mag in when you enter the game zone, cock it, job done.

Ah, no worries, we all have to learn this.  It's the most important safety rule: eye protection on before you go into the game zone; and mags out, guns cleared[*], and selectors on safe before you enter the safe zone.

If you're bringing your own guns rather than renting, then I'd listen out for a shout for rentals on your first day. Tail onto that, and listen in to the rules-and-safety briefing that they're given. If in any doubt on the day, just ask any marshal or other player - airsofters tend to be a friendly, helpful lot, if somewhat prone to magical thinking and wild mis-estimation of ranges.  

[*]anything that doesn't need a mag to fire, shoot it at the ground until you're sure there's nothing left in the chamber.

You’ve started well having identified a potential flaw and then thinking about how that is resolved

The first time we ran an airsoft game I knew nothing about how airsoft actually runs.  I was sat at the safe zone entry waiting for all players to return before resetting props & pyro for the next mission.  The players didn’t know why I was there, the first player through showed me his empty magwell - then everyone in turn showed they were safe & clear or stopped to remove magazine and fire off the last BB in the chamber - and then due to my presence a few remembered they had a holstered pistol to clear as well 

In just a few minutes I learned the airsoft method for clearing before exit, and some of the peculiarities of different RIF types

* we always run events in in collaboration with sites so did have real marshals to do that side - not only because we have a paintball background vs airsoft specifics, but I prefer a clear distinction on the primary roles - everyone should be looking out for safety but I feel that the game marshal should be focused safety first that rather than us who are running the flow of an event and hopefully spotting safety issues
