Hi all, I'm Mike from the north east. just about to start playing airsoft.

got my first session booked on Sunday.

I’m really looking forward to it, and no doubt I’ll be asking questions and looking for tips and tricks as i move along on my journey.

Yes i've been, both before and after they opened their SpeedSoft arena. I'll happily admit that it used to be better beforehand and the reduced space for the regular airsoft walk-ons has made it an overall worse experience however it is the only indoors CQB site in the local area. Be mindful when you're on the upper floor of the arena - whatever they're using on the 'floor' they can actually be very slippy and i've fallen on my arse more than once even in boots. IMO the best days are when there are less people because it allows freedom of movement for both teams in the new setup. With more people, it's just too cramped. The old setup was longer allowing for more/deeper flanking routes and you could get behind the enemy team pretty often which could flip the momentum of the match you were in - annoyingly, this is pretty rare now with the condensed arena unless you have lower numbers.

The only other Indoor sites in the area (that i'm aware of) are NoLimits in Newcastle and 101Airsoft in Scarborough.

I can vouch for Armageddon: The Woodland (Middlesbrough) being a quality outdoors woodland site (also my regular site) and the owner is a fantastic guy to deal with. NTAC is a decent site with questionable marshalling, however, I haven't been in well over a year so it may have changed since then.

Personally i'd suggest using AKU Pilgrims if you can get your hands on them cheap. I paid £40 for mine (surplus) and they're the most comfortable boots i've worn to the point I swear by them.

Armageddon is on my radar to try also as it is probably closer to me than District 23, marginally. Dirt dog in shildon is also somewhere i will be trying out.

I was really just kidding about calling them toys.

I call em rifs, toys or pews if I'm discussing airsoft with friends in public.

The thing is that those who don't like this hobby aren't going to suddenly change their mind based on what we call our kit, so why bother trying to appease them as it won't change a thing

It could be argued that using words like toy can promote unsafe practices as it promotes the "its only a toy" mindset, leading to people being more likely to do something stupid

I don't know any specific cases of it actually happening but I'm not going to take any chances.

As we know, the public can be real arseholes when it comes to gun topics.

Anyone who acts stupid with em deserves the lesson.

I agree.

I call them guns because they're... guns.

(Of which there are many types, from snow foam guns to impact guns..)
