I came across the item below which was exactly what I needed for displaying my pistols on a pegboard protected by glass.

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/uppspel-glass-door-cabinet-dark-grey-90507636/

The pegboard itself is metal (unlike the fibre board of the Skadis) and there is room to fit three (at a pinch four) pistols on each side. The glass slides into the front of cabinet.

IKEA's own hooks are not suitable, but I found 3-D printed compatible ones of various sizes on ebay.

The only problem is that the Uppsell pegboard is a very dark grey - almost black - so the pistols I have do not stand out. Therefore I have decided to paint it a medium to light grey. The black surface of the pegboard is nicely done in what appears to be a baked on material. It would be a pity -  and probably a long job -  to try to remove it. Is there any reason why I could not just wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol and paint directly over it? Should I spray it with a primer first or just go over the black with two coats of grey? What sort of paint would you recommend?

I also want to paint the white plastic hooks black. Again, can I just spray them black or should I use a primer first?

I would appreciate advice from anybody who is knowledgeable about  the sort of paints I would need.

Are both sides of the peg board black? If so then why not try testing the paint on the back?

Using primer should give you a better finish but whether it's essential or not I couldn't say as I don't know what the black coating is. Re the hooks, primer will give a more durable finish but if you're taking the guns down regularly then it will wear off over time.

This is from 2022, I don't think they sell it anymore :(

Discontinuation Status: IKEA is phasing out or has completely removed the UPPSPEL range from its global store inventories, and remaining display or warehouse stock will not be restocked

Just do the same with the plastic ones. Key the surface or use plastic etching primer before paint. BY the way what’s this about gas cabinets all I’m seeing to pegboard on a chair page.

The original link was from 2022; IKEA no longer sells the items discussed but still has the filler pictures on the page.

Can confirm (I live about a mile from my local IKEA and spend inordinate amounts of time in there), UPPSPEL hasn't existed in the showroom since January.

Having both, the plastic version from the normal organisation section is actually more robust than the older UPPSPEL stuff, if you're regularly interacting with it.
