Hello collective hive mind.

Decided I need another AK in my life and started looking at options. Like the look of something modern AK12/AK15 and a long rifle as I have the SMG size covered with a growing collection of MP5's.

Currently have a TM AKS74 NGRS, really like the fit, finish, look and snappy trigger response I suspect partly from its Gate Aster. Its plastic wood but its nice plastic wood and under-fold stock makes it nice and compact for up close game play. Not so convinced by its performance, shoots fast enough on a 7.4v and the BB's fly straight but the FPS/J are not great so it (or rather I) struggle in the big woodland games.

Also have a LCT RPK which is a solid lump of a thing, really good fun to shoot, not as snappy on semi and not as pretty as the TM but the FPS/J it puts out are bang on site limits (1.3J for full auto) so it has real reach and with the LMG mentality gets a ton of kills with a drum full of BB's but it is blinking heavy and a monster to carry around all day. I picked up a few mid caps thinking I would run it as a big AK rifle in a few games but its weight and slow trigger response mean its full auto all the time or bust in its current configuration.

The options.

1. Spend money on the LCT, optical Mosfet, faster or brushless motor and a thorough upgrade package to make it a better semi and full auto gun and then just use it for all RPK/ big AK type games while I grow some muscles.
2. Buy a TM AK Storm, not sure it will have the legs/power at my usual outdoor field, will I be a bit disappointed? Pretty and accurate but not an outdoor toy?
3. Buy another AK of some kind CYMA Platinum, LCT, Specna, G&G etc. Is there a goto AK manufacturer at the moment?

Any thoughts?

I have a Storm. It shoots around 320fps with a .2g.

In the flesh the handguard feels cheap being made of a toy like plastic (but looks ok) and the stock 'tube' is plastic as well. I've bought a wii-tech rear battery buffer tube conversation for mine and I will modify a GBB handguard to go on it at some point. Should feel the part as well as look it.

If you're looking for a modern AK-12/15, I’d genuinely look at the Arcturus PE (Perun Enhanced) versions. They come out of the box with a Perun mosfet, 13:1 gears, and a high-torque motor. The trigger response is incredibly snappy (honestly rivals a tuned build), and the build quality is solid without being quite as front-heavy as an LCT RPK. It seems to tick all your boxes: modern look, great performance OTB, and decent power.

I was tempted by the Cyma Platinum AKs, but even though the cost has come down a little, they are overpriced in my view. Instead I picked up a Specna Prime AK74N. I've had it for a few months now, and fielded it a fair few times- very pleased with the externals, and internals are absolutely stellar. I'm not sure you will find a better spec out of the box, and the cost they can do it for is absurd.

Have you considered trying the VFC GBBR, it's really really good.
Thanks for the suggestion a friend has one and it's a lovely thing, the recoil is immense!!! I have a couple of GBB's but find I don't use them very often, I do love the feel and operation of them and the fun they bring is epic but I always feel compromised in game. When trying to push an objective I run out of ammo at a critical moment and get 5 players running AEG's with high caps going full auto back at me, reminds me I need to get a GBB 350 round drum and try that when it warms up. I prefer using GBB in CQB where the safe zone is a short walk to reload and there's no full auto allowed which helps balance AEG and GBB.
