I agree. Nothing is quick accessible. Everything is low and to the rear.

The mags are still accessible but I thought Russians preferred to carry them on the chest. Maybe it's just a Smersh thing, and designed for a particular type of role.

I take your point though that all that weight at the sides and back isn't going to aid balance.  The stuff on the back is too low to be comfortable.

I do like the look, not too practical for a skirmish though. For me practicality and comfort outweigh everything else

 
In Soviet Russia, bags saddle you.

It does have a sort of rugged retro-look to it, i.e. from before militaries actually figured out load carrying and access.

Maybe not that practical, but I can see the appeal.
