I will buy my last gun next month before my UKARA expires in early March.

I have considered pistols, but I already have eight. I have three rifles, all sub-carbines which I bought with CQB in mind.

So I have decided to go for another rifle - an aeg because I can't really afford a decent gbbr and extra mags, and aegs are pretty much maintenance free if you are just a plinker like me.

I have finally developed a liking for M4s and would like a normal size battle rifle. And it will probably have to be Chinese nimh powered rifle  because of price. So I would appreciate advice from owners.

This ticks most of the boxes because of its looks and price: https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/specna-arms-sa-b01-m4a1-carbine-assault-rifle?pv=7988

Difficult to believe it's less than 150 quid with a metal receiver from a brand many think is good. Or are the Edge series so much better that I should consider this: https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/specna-arms-rock-river-arms-sa-e01-edge-carbine?pv=10275 or this:https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/specna-arms-rock-river-arms-sa-e03-edge-carbine?pv=9480. These guns can have a spring change through the stock, but plinkers don't really need to change springs. They also have basic mosfet to protect circuits. Do they have any other improvements my first choice lacks? Are they just a more reliable gun?

And then there is the Cyma range of metal M4s like this one:https://www.airsoftworld.net/cyma-colt-m4a1-airsoft-rifle-aeg-with-free-magazine-full-metal.html#product-tabs  Not highly regarded I know, but bomb proof by all accounts.

Bear in mind that I am looking for an inexpensive 9.6 powered metal rifle with decent externals which will hang on a wall most of the time and get occasional use at a range, not a top quality rifle with superb hop, high ROF etc -just something that can hit a man sized target at 20-30 yards most of the time.

Should I go for a Specna , Specna Edge or Cyma? I would appreciate your advice.

Neither of these are Battle Rifles. Technically a Battle Rifle would be something like a G3 or M14.

Thanks for correcting me.

What I mean is the type of M4 that is general issue to American troops - it would appear to be the M4 A1 carbine. Or is that just what the Marines get?

When I think of good looking externals, it is always Umarex / VFC.  Not the cheapest gun to purchase but then they do not look cheap like other brands can.  For a wall hangar, I do not care whether it actually works (just that it is not built in china).

I believe it is used throughout the American Armed forces. Personally I prefer the Car-15 Xm177 which is more Vietnam era.

Perhaps I should just go for reliability and get a Combat Machine.

I do like metal receivers on M4s though.

The JG M4A1 is perfectly fine and surprisingly heavy for such a small gun.

Any of the ones you mentioned would be fine for plinking so just get the cheapest that looks good to you.

Out of loop for a while

probably Specna as an all-rounder safe bet

but for a wall hanger, D-Boys 416 seems to be now Bell/D-Boys 801:

https://www.taiwangun.com/en/electric/by-801-bell?from=listing&campaign-id=19

That is a cheap 416, now they say it is a quick change box

Just a cheap metal 416 looking mofo - hop on my old one was shite

but is different & weighty

watch out - the 416's straight magwell don't like some curvy m4 mags

stock is a bit mehh cheap looking but a cheap alternative to Umarex or whoever with markings

really almost anything is the answer

(ps just passing through, so ignore this old fart)
