mp5 sight rail

hi just a quick question i have an mp5 low mount sight rail for my MP5 but what I'd like to know which way around it goes

is the same as picture above, now I have it so that the longer bit at fornt of pic is facing the rear sight, i have also put it the other way around but am unsure which way it is suposed to go. when long part is facing front sight the cocking handle is almost touch 1mm off. It looks odd that way too as I have had it facing to back sight

thought as much thats the way I have it on there
