MP5 DMR project

Oh yeah, and re Lonex - I haven't tried one of their barrels yet but I'm not impressed with their metal AK hop unit or air nozzle. No better and possibly not as good as CYMA

I thought you played at combat south?
No mate, I spend most of my time at Ambush Adventures sites. I know a few marshals and one of the senior partners in AA from elsewhere. No mate's rates though! :D

ICS Turbo 3000 motor, SHS 13:1 Gears, SHS Delayer Chip, SHS M130 Spring, SHS Stainless Steel V2 Spring Guide w/ bearings, SHS Jet Air Seal Nozzle, PDI 6.05x390mm, PDI W-Hold Chamber Packing, 16AWG wire, 11.1V LiPo, Programmable MOSFET.

That should give you about 420FPS, good accuracy with 0.28's, and blistering trigger response.
Cheers Ian, nice save :) I'll just have to plan my spending in relation to those parts.

Your MP5 is a CYMA, right? I'd leave getting a new motor until last, if so - they're designed for minimum 120 springs stock, so even though 13:1 gears & M130 spring is a jump in required torque, with the LiPo (oh yeah, get a 25C continuous 50C burst as minimum spec), 16AWG wiring, and a MOSFET, the additional current and the speed with which that current is made available ought to keep the stock CYMA motor up to the job - it's just who knows how long it will last once it is being worked hard?

It is a Cyma, yeah. Been used on semi for about 98% of it's life since it's auto is shite (something to do with the GB methinks, the battery's fine as I can draw out an awesome ROF with it in my M4. The MP5 works pretty well range wise anyway, so that kinda makes up for it) there shouldn't be any problems with it except slight weakening from use.

I actually took it out for the first time last week, with it connected up to an 8.4v battery with the GB and trigger mech in between. While I held it and pulled the trigger it was actually turning my hand with it's force!

edit: So far all those parts you suggested (excl. the ICS motor as we shall see how the stock holds out) come to a surprisingly achievable total of £118.42, without shipping :D I'll probably get majorly stung there though.

Yeah, shipping grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

The standard price from X-Fire is £15, and it might be worth emailing Bullseye Country Sports to see how much of the rest of it they can do, b/c they are pretty cool over shipping anyway and seemed pretty friendly when I harassed them over Madbull barrels a while back. Oh yeah, and they do 5% off for UKAPU members if you email 'em in advance to say so.

Otherwise, dualdealshop on fleabay are worth keeping an eye on.

Alright, cheers Ian. I thought this would be a monumental project but the only problem I can see is installation (not opened my MP5's GB before) but I'll see if the tech at my local site could open 'er up and do the transplants, rather than me screw things up :)

Either that or risk irreparably damaging my oldest ally.

According to Ed, V2 GB's are pigs and so far I've been inclined to accept that as good reason to not bother building an MP5 myself (it's a gun which I would like, SD6 probably), or snap up any of the M4 bargains I've seen and do 'em up to sell on. Having learned my lesson by trashing my CM.028U, I plan on getting a V2 GB on it's own to mess with before I try one in a gun I actually want.

Atm I'm having enough difficulty getting the thing back into the pistol grip with the selector plate in the right way :/

Update: opened the GB up yesterday evening, it's actually a lot less complicated than I thought it would be. It isn't that much of a pig to work on until you try closing the damned thing, but I'm fairly confident I can get the new parts into it and get it working properly.

Although I have to say, the chinese factories literally cake their GBs in grease- almost as if they got one of those icing pipettes and just literally covered the inside of the case with it! :D

edit: This look like a happy gearbox?

Looks good to me, could do with a bit of a clean and the see through tappet plate confused me but apart from that it's all good!

One thing to definitely watch out for though is the wiring at the bottom not getting caught by the pinion gear on your motor, because that'll ruin your day!

Yeah, I've been working on that. Probably going to do a sticky tape fix on it- nothing permanent, as I'm going to replace it with some 16AWG as part of the servicing :)

I've found a decent barrel extension as well: MP5 Barrel Extension

It's a little pricey for what it is though- I could probably make one tailored to my needs, but I lack a way of coating it in black oxide.

Spray paint, or duracoat/cerakote. Again not the cheapest option but if you're milling your own barrel then you'll end up with the part you want, not the part MadBull want to sell you.

Fair enough, I've got about 1/2 a can of matte black left over from other projects so that'll have to do. I'm not bad on a lathe (see The Epic Thread lol) and I have access to them and a lot of duralumin for a few hours a week, so it's just a matter of asking my workshop teacher @ college.

My engineering tutor gave me a big fat no when I mentioned using college materials for a project of my own- he said the budget was pretty tight after the department moved into their brand new building. Which is fair enough.

So I bought myself a basic suppressor- little more than a 17cm aluminium tube, with a 14mm hole going all the way through it and an internal thread on each end. I'm going to widen one of the threads to 120mm diameter and possibly turn part of it down to the end of the internal thread, so it can fit into the front sight.

My replacement crimp contacts arrived as well- they quoted the wrong amount on the ebay page, so the packet contained 25 instead of 10- gives me much more room for error :D
