Melee Choices for the Battlefield

I must admit its good fun using a melee weapon, I've had my weapons fail on 4 occasions and sneaking around with a knife or something feels much better than just open hands.

One of my first outings as DREDD I actually forgot to bring the specialised batteries to power the pistol, basically went out with a foam baton and a riot shield, ended up chasing a group of guys who had a great story to tell lol.

I am desperate to get one of these http://www.thevikingstore.co.uk/larp-dark-moon---chainsword-2563-p.asp
My mate has one, it be huge! Good call though :)

P1907 Bayonet. Attach this to the end of the rifle and charge the enemy position. Not a very useful tactic for getting kills, but the rest of your team can use it as a diversion. It can also be used as a sword. The last every cavalry charge was by the Aussie light horse in Galipoli, they used the P1907 bayonets as cavalry sabres. Just having it fixed to the rifle, seems to be enough to have a psychological effect.

Actually during world war 2, Polish cavalry were known to charge the German tanks on many occasions and on all but one they were all killed :(

I've read about the Aussie light horse charge, great plan there.

Maybe it was just the last successful cavalry charge, by the Aussie Light Horse then?

hmm looking into it, it was the battle of Beersheba in WW1 Egypt. Subsequent 'Cavalry charges' have not been recognised as Cavalry charges as the troops were using guns whilst mounted and were not therefore technically Cavalry.

It's a myth that Polish cavalry charged German tanks. In fact the Polish military were not mobilised when the Germans rolled in, so the defence was not supported by light artillery forward and heavy artillery in the rear, with infantry manning strong points and cavalry held in reserve to support weakening points and/or attack vulnerable extended supply lines... but the German generals didn't know for sure that the political maneuvering would create the degree of surprise it did, hence the tanks did not go charging in as massed armour but advanced accompanied, unsurprisingly, by their panzer grenadiers. So if the romantic myth had even a shred of truth, it would have been the German infantry whom the Polish cavalry charged. But it never happened.

Some Polish cavalry units did participate in ad hoc attempts to defend against a German Armoured Division, they used their horses as transport to get to the battlefield, not to charge futilely into machinegun fire waving sabres. After all, the Polish were not especially blind or stupid whilst WW1 raged across Europe. Their military contained cavalry regiments, but they were geared up to fight trench warfare, like everyone else except the Germans, who had decided (correctly as it turned out) that the way to prevent a short term stalemate followed by a long term war of attrition was Blitzkrieg. But remember, only the panzer grenadiers were mechanised infantry, the rest of the German army also used horses for transport.

Edit to add: why oh why does this fucking forum 'ware constantly select random bits of text for a font size rebellion?

Anything that is made of rubber and can bend 90 degrees.

Might take a trip to baddragon and make a makeshift bayonet.

Hue.

i use one of the rubber bayonets as it came with a scabbard which looks better. the cold steel knife has that as a disadvantage against it and that its hard as. one of my fellow airsofters uses a cold steel axe and ive been told its been banned after someone got a rap across the knuckles with it... i might be getting something new for halloween though, decisions...

This frustrates me how risk averse airsoft is when ultimately, we shoot each other with bbs, often in the face. But god forbid we slap someone with a rubber knife!

Did we not all play slaps and, knuckles and whip people with tea towels?

I'm considering a larp safe throwing hatchet to pull off some call of duty style tomahawk kills. For £18, it's tempting :D

Eh? Why does having guns while mounted make them not cavalry?
The Belgians did the last 'cavalry charge' of WW1 and the Italians did one in WW2 but in both cases the units involved were mounted infantry not cavalry. If you are using a rifle, then you can't fight effectively on a moving horse. Is it a cavalry charge if you ride horses up to the enemy and then dismount to fight?

Some sites allow throwing weapons, some don't. The big problem is that although a throwing hatchet may not hurt people, it might knock someones eyepro off.

Happy is the whole idea ok a knife kill to tap someone?
Pretty much, tap them on the back/front and whisper "Knife kill"/"You're mine now..." in their ear. Done right you can make a grown man cry/wet himself/both haha
Depends where you go as some sites allow some antics like throwing knives (fake ones of course) at people.

Edit: I hate iPhone predictive text.

Larp stuff usually has a stiff core so you can twat each other with them without completely knackering them. Unfortunately for most sites that means they're TOO stiff. Of course that hasn't stopped someone at the Malls getting 18 kills with a dildo.

Dismounting to fight makes you Dragoons or mounted infantry. Firing from horseback would still qualify you as cavalry though (which is after all, where carbines started).
