Magazines not feeding!?

Alright, so, I have a G&G combat machine. I bought a box set of Beta project M4 low caps, and they don't feed?? I've taped them up with some duct tape, still won't feed (just shoots one BB, but if I force it into the gun it feeds flawlessly)

So, I've wrapped more tape around the magazines, it doesn't wobble in the magwell and I have yet to try it. (Since it's late and the family's sleeping.) What do you guys think I should do??

Seriously, it sounds like the magazines are not seating properly in the receiver, which means the magazine catch is not holding them in enough. Not a lot you can do, except maybe add a bit more plastic inside the top of the retention hole on the side of the magazines to make them sit higher.

People are entitled to their own opinion. :huh:

I don't know how I'm going to add more plastic to the retention piece, guess I could give it a shot.

 
I had to do it with some magazines years ago. It was a case of getting some thin plastic and gluing it into the top of the magazine catch retention cut out in the side of the magazine. It makes the magazine catch hold it tighter up into the receiver. There is no magic fix for what is happening with your magazines.

 
Has it just started with these new mags?

When loaded; if you pull the BB release lever on the mags, do they fire out completely in one quick spurt, or just kind of trickle out (Or not even that).

Some makes of mags (I'm looking at YOU King Arms!) are just absolutely gash; and have trouble feeding.

If you try it with another make/type of mag, does the gun feed fine?

 
I've got the same problem with my M4 midcaps in my G&G CM16. They don't sit tight enough in the magwell and need to be held in to feed properly, although they work fine in my G&P M16 and in all three of my Army L85s. My CM16 will work OK with the hicap it came with and with the other hicap I have left, but doesn't like any of my midcaps, which is what I tend to use these days.

 
TBH I think your mistake was adding the duct tape because now you'll never get a refund, or even a credit note. IMO the best bet would have been to send them back and try a different make of mags...

Going forward, it sounds like BaggyPants has a good solution. I'd add that before you glue anything in place, you try out various thicknesses of plastic bits, perhaps by using Pritt Stick or blue tack... whatever, chewing gum even, just something that will come apart easily afterwards. When you find a thickness that works well, get the old cyano-acrylate on the job (generic super glue).

Indeed it isn't guaranteed you can be refunded.

Some makes of mags just simply are not compatible with other brands! Best checking/asking around prior to buying mags that aren't of the same brand!

Yeah, with anything that takes those NATO 5.56mm replica type mags that go in AR15 variants, SA80 replicas and HK 416. I don't remember the type of mags now and I'm a bit hazy on the make of M4 too, but I think I skirmished with a G&G M4 and a couple of the Hi-Caps I had were really stiff to get in or out of the magwell. I mean, to remain in cover, I was rolling about on my back trying to pull them out! I also had a Mid-Cap on me that I'd borrowed from another player and it went in and out like a sailor on leave. The Hi-Caps were obviously just a bit too big for the width of the magwell; all I can remember that might identify them was that they showed brass under the OD paint where they were scratched.

If you don't fancy bodging them, I suppose eBay is a final option.

The only magazine that feeds properly is the high cap it came with, which really sucks because I hate high caps. And I asked around at the site I went to and everyone couldn't think of a brand, which also sucks. I guess I'll just have to buy a different rifle, so I don't have to worry about taping the magazines up for it to fire.

Have you tried "Adventure Line"? They make mid caps, with "For government Use Only" ..etc etc on the magazine in white. They are plastic.

They have fed in all M4 varients I have owned, except my old ARMY R85. But it doesn't count!

 
See if you can get your hands on some MAG Mids? They're *usually* very good.

 
Beta mags are known for being bad mags,they either dont feed or double stack before they come out of the mag lip

That's what the King Arms mags do in my experience, I just took them apart and sanded down the follower so it was angled, forcing the BBs into a staggered configuration instead of stacking parallel. I'm not sure the Beta mags can be taken apart though...

Also, with regard to adding bits of plastic to the retention piece, how about cutting up an old credit card, or similar card? They're easy to cut and just the right width for making minor adjustments.
