As far as ditching kit midgame goes, my loadout is designed around my modularity, I can go from my primary with gear on and pistol holstered to pistol in 1 hand, spare mag in the other and all my other kit on the floor around me in about 5 seconds.
Or I can go from VSR to shotty and ditch the pistol in about 3.
It's all down to how you want it set up really, I have my rig how I want it, other people have their rig how they want it but need a mate to help them get in and out of it. Either is fine and we can't really tell you what is right/wrong for you to use.
