Lipo Charging

Hi All,

I have this charger - TLP GT Power AD-6 Intelligent Digital Multifunctional Balance NiCD/NiMH/LiPo/LiLo/LiFe/PB Charger

However, I have lost the manual and cannot find an 'E' copy anywhere....

What sort of details do I need to input to safely charge this lipo battery? - http://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/kong...le-lipo-battery

I have googled but I am not getting the results I need

Sorry if this seems stupid but its my first lipo and dont want it to blow up...lol

Well, what details can you input in to the charger? I'd have thought the voltage and mah figure would probably do it, possible the 'C' value as wel.

Looks like the usual Turnigy/Imax/Bantam clone.

Search for Turnigy Charging on YouTube there's some good instructional videos there. But generally select Lipo Balance (assuming you're doing a balance charge), select the number of cells (2 for a 7.4, 3 for an 11.1) and select the charge rate based on the battery specs.

Why are you charging it such a high input?

A lower XXXX charge such as 0.5A will increase it's life,apparently.

To be honest - I would not have a clue - I merely followed what was on the battery. I know nothing about charging Lipo batteries hence the thread....

If 0.5A is better then I'll charge it at 0.5 instead of 1.4 when I get home

A lower charge is best option by all accounts,unless you need a battery charged at short notice.

BTW 1.4 is around the max for that battery=1400 Mah/1000=1.4V,a simple rule to follow.

Just slightly off topic then...

When charging my 8.4v 2200mah battery, I am charging it at 1.0A - is that OK or too high / low?

My 7.4 2200mAh 35C LiPo states clearly "NEVER TRICKLE CHARGE A LIPO BATTERY".

Maybe that means Amp ratings lower than like 300mA (0.3A) however, I know that trickling is best for the NiMH's and NiCD's.

Some batteries state their "Fast Charge" Rating in C. Mine has a fast charge of 5C, which is really damn high and would charge in about 6minutes!

I used the wrong word when I used "trickle",trickle charge means to maintain a charge on a fully charged battery.

I meant a lower charged rate,sorry.

2200MaH is okay at anything upto 2.2A according to the general rule,so 1A is good,I always opt for the lowest setting possible,I've always done it with no issues so far.

Unsure about the slower charge rate. From personal experience it makes no difference at all. I notice that the battery has more punch to it if you fast charge it but may last a bit longer and have less punch if you charge at half the max or so, (0.7A in this case). I nearly always charge at 1C (1.4A in this case) though just because it is so much easier and has never had bad effect for me!

I've only ever charged lipo's at 1c and never had any charge related issues. Never read anyone saying to charge them at any less until i got into airsoft though either to be honest

I go for .5c ish for most nimh though, killed some a while back at 1c so i don't even risk it now.
