Just looking for some advice :)

Hello everyone, I am a newcomer to airsoft, and I have yet to play my first game. I've been paintballing pretty often, so this type of sport is not a complete new experience for me.

First off, I just want some advice on what gun would suite me? About me: Quite short, not very strong ( ), not exactly a gung-ho hero, more of a calm, patient guy :3. I was looking at going for something that would keep on the second line, providing support or at least not the guy who rushes forward guns blazing (well, popping in this case). Basically, what type of gun should I go for to start with? I know the standard starter guns are the M4 builds, G36C builds and such, I've looked at the JG G36C, and various M4 builds all under £200, are they the right thing to be looking at? I was going to look at the M14, but as I said I'm not exactly tall or particularly strong, and I heard it was pretty hefty and rather long (the real issue).

Basically, are there any guns that may vaguely fit me?

P.S Are airsoft sniper rifles worth it? I've been told to stay away from them, if they're an option then feel free to tell me about them!

The best option is to go to a game and ask the guys there to let you get a feel of their rifles, to see what suits your frame and price range. Yes, the M4/M16, AK & G36 styles are probably the best for beginners, as they are infinitely upgradeable when money allows, although you might decide that some of the less obvious weapons would suit better (e.g. MP5, P90, Famas, Steyr Aug, L85, etc.). Only getting to try them out will really give you the information you need, as everyone is different. It will also be governed somewhat by the style of game you favour, e.g. woodland would be better with a longer barrelled gun, whereas CQB would better suit an MP5, AK Beta or M4 carbine rifle.

Get to a game and hire something first, then ask to hold a few different styles of rifle that the other players are using and, once you're hooked, then you can think about the style of rifle you want first. Oh and no, sniper rifles are not a good choice for new players, since anything cheap will cost at least the same again to make even remotely skirmishable and they usually take a lot of setting up to get accurate. Sending a stream of bbs at someone will usually either keep their heads down or get you a hit. One bb every 10 seconds or so is not going to be much fun until you can ensure that each shot hits the mark, not easy with small round air powered plastic balls.

Thanks for the info on the sniper, it did occur to me that it would be pretty awkward to use in a standard match, but thought I may as well ask!

Im probably not the right person to ask im in a similar position to yourself. I dont think its as accurate as an m4 for example. I would get a G&G CM16 for £117.

For a newcomer I've heard nothing but good things about G&G's Combat Machine range. I bought a CM16 Raider recently and while I haven't got a tonne of use out of it yet I can say it's a great, solid choice. Very customisable and very affordable. Should be good for just about anyone.

Noooooooo. With a sniper you'll spend long periods of time sitting there doing nothing and a sniper isn't versatile at all, you'll be able to snipe and nothing else. I reckon you'd get bored of it really quickly.

They're great, thanks May I just ask, how physically demanding is airsoft? I mean, is it comparable to paintball? From videos I have seen it seems a little less focused on the whole energetic side that shows in paintball, and more skill based, focusing on the players shooting abilities rather than their athletic abilities.

Its not too demanding just basically a good walk in the hills, a good pair of boots is a must! It also depends on what you want to do I enjoy pushing forward and rolling about in the bushes trying to flanks! The reason you can move about in paintball is that nobody can afford the ammunition

Just because an MP5 is shorter does not mean it's less accurate. Accuracy is determined by the quality of your gun's hop unit and rubber.

What you said about M4s being more accurate is a little irrelevant, my MP5 outranged my mates' G&G M4 before I put a tight bore and a new hop unit in mine.

Also, one last question, if I buy a two-tone or transparent gun, would it be frowned upon by people?

Nope, if your under 18 then you can't buy anything unfortunately, if your over 18 I'd honestly rent until you have a defence that's what I did, gives you experience with other guns and eye pro

Renting sounds like a good idea. I am under 18, but I know it's legal for over 18's to purchase airsoft guns for under 18's. Not long till I am over 18 though -__-

Unfortunately not, an over 18 can gift you a IF or if they have a defence an RIF , but no money or services can change hands. If that makes sense

Yeah that's what I mean, like, a family member/friend would buy it, then give it to me (Even though it would probably be my money )
