Me and some friends are looking to get some airsoft guns really just to mess around with but not sure what to get. The CYMA CM515 seems like an obvious choice but a lot of people say its not that good, is it fine just to shoot around in the house and with friends?

It is ok for that, but it is barely skirmishable. However, you would be better off with a basic Specna or Double Bell rifle (other brands are available).

However, be aware that you cannot buy a black or tan one unless you have a defence, such as UKARA membership; also make sure that you and anyone else in the house has good quality eyepro on.

Do not, under any circumstances, do anything with an airsoft gun where members of the public might see it; that might get you a visit from chaps with real guns.

This is how people lose an eye, find an airsoft site close by & attend a few games, you can rent equipment and you'll be able to decide if you want to spend cash on a brightly coloured 'gun'. Without a UKARA defence/registration you'll only be able to buy a two tone rif, this is an airsoft Realistic Imitation Firearm painted an unrealistic colour.

Welcome 🖐️

If you can find a CYMA CM515 for under £100 then go for it but as said above, you can get a better one for not much more money. (Search the forum for 'first gun recommendation')
You'll have to buy a coloured version 'Imitation Firearm' (IF) but if you go to a site and play 3 games you can get registered with UKARA and be able to buy a 'Realistic Imitation Firearm' (RIF)

Also as said above, wear eye protection as accidents happen and can lead to a lifetime of regret.
Don't play on public land and don't let anyone see your toys (even in your house) Any calls to Police get taken very seriously and even legal ownership can result in confiscation.

In my experience the cyma 500 range have pretty good internal parts but the plastic bodies are shit and break very easily. For not much more you can get something far better.

just to mess around with
What do you mean by mees around with? If you're just putting holes in paper targets then still get eye protection as bbs can easily ricochet and take out an eye. If you're thinking of taking them to your local woodland/abandoned building then don't bother. Simply put you will get an ARU called out and they don't fuck about.

It may look like people are very defensive when it comes to people misusing airsoft guns but we came very close to them being banned and only a lot of hard work went in to stopping that from happening.
