Straight out of the box? Tokyo Marui Recoil or something by Real Sword. Real Sword will definitely take it on build quality as they use real gun bodies, Marui man may take it on features/reliability though.

Systemas, despite being the most expensive guns on the market take quite a bit of aftermarket work to get them working at their best, CTW/DTW even more.

RealSword Dragunov. Around 80m,maybe more of effective range stock,that's pretty damn impressive. All dimensions are more or less real steel scale,the internals are reinforced to hell and back letting them pull M150s stock no problem. All steel external construction making it absolutely bulletproof.

Only downfall of it I can think of is that the stock motor is a ferrite type, for some reason. Don't know why RS are using a ferrite since they are saving approximately 5$ per motor on manufacturing. A good neodymium motor will quieten the gun down and give far better trigger response.

It's probably the only out of the box proper sniper rifle/dmr out there.

Apparently RealSword do not use real gun bodies,everything is in house. I believe one of their spokespeople said this at a show in Hong Kong,I can try dig it out. They still use weapons grade steel alloys though,can't get better than that.

I'm beginning to think my criteria seem to be more aesthetic than everyone else's. As long as it shoots and isn't really bad quality though I think people choose a type of gun and then look for the best one available. I like good looking guns that are really well designed such as the MP5 and the Sten gun but I already have those so a ZB26 which is the forerunner of the Bren gun and which was copied by virtually everyone has to be a contender. The MP41 is just a sexy version of the MP40.

I would also love an M1 carbine (Marushin)

It's the 1st decent carbine so the forerunner of M4's and all the other carbine variants, and looks damn good. A folding stock one would be better though.

I hear that King arms are planning one and it will even have rails so you could add a scope.

I'd want to get something by Real Sword too I think. Probably their Type 56 which is the Chinese designation for their AK-style rifle (with closed ring front sight being one of the distinctive differences) or maybe the 97B but it wouldn't really go with anything apart from a Chinese Military loadout whereas the AK would be awesome for any OPFOR set up!!

Do I have to pick only one? I mean Real Sword Type 56 with under folding bayonet, scuffed up and worn smooth all over, smelling of the kind of grease that we're glad not to know from what it was made, couple of real AK mags and a handfull of 7.62x39 just to take photos...

But then the Type 56-2 to mod up with an ICS RAS system for hanging a torch that could dry the ground in front of you off the right hand side and a green laser off the left, an ergonomic pistol grip under the front handguard, and an Elcan 3.4 x 32 scope above the top cover... all pristine and black, crisp edged metalwork with laser etched trades and a bomb proof sex machine to carry it around on... how can I choose?

But then, as UTJ says, there's the SVD too... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Although this Sunday just gone someone who visits Russia and knows a bit about Russian airsoft, or strikeball as they (far more) stylishly call it, told me that Concern Kalashnikov, Izhmash are going to be making 7 Joule airsoft guns. TBH, having watched a few Russian vids, including a game which started out with a lot of the players being marched along a road into a forest, some with their hands restrained, all unarmed, in a manner far too reminiscent of recent events in the Balkans for it to be just a laugh... they had to break ranks and sprint for cover - bloody difficult to know what was going on exactly, since I don't speak or understand much spoken Russian, but there were pistols involved but going up against the 'guards' with AEG's... and another with a real tank driving around the urban site... I can believe 7 Joules - they really don't give a fuck. Got to get there to skirmish one day...

In the meantime I'm just hoping that CKIzh's AK-74M will be similar enough to other AEG's that downgrading it to 1.2J will be easy enough... and that it doesn't cost both arms and legs to buy in the first place of course.
