How much is enough?

Quite off: People like to use the word autism for anything weird. While it's true that the autism spectrum includes many behaviours that are not "normal", most of them are from the fact that an autistic brain doesn't do filtering of the input and pours everything with the same priority to the conscious mind. This can result that they instantly see complex patterns and also when they need to shout just to block out all other noises that overwhelm them. Putting stuff in order is to remove the need to process the connections between the randomly placed objects or they enjoy the nice regular pattern of them. It calms them. Extreme focusing on one topic allows them to block out other stuff.

Diagnosing autism is not a simple black or white decision. There are different methods and they have multiple tests each. If the subject "fails" on a certain number of these, he/she is considered to be on the autistic spectrum. Thus two autistic person can be very very different. If you fail only on a couple of test, then you are still considered to be normal.

What were we talking about? :)

Well, I might have some autistic traits like many people

But I know I can't be autistic coz I get sarcasm

Which most autistic people never understand

The OCD part is quite common - their routine etc...

Deviate from this and there can be real hell to pay

Severe cases of autism are heartbreaking needing 24/7 care

Most cases are mild to moderate - often no sarcasm & black/white logic

Einstein was autistic and tbh I'd take a stab at Mr Spock too

Though he might blame than on his half human side

In reality think them Vulcan's caused this autistic stuff

When they become focused on something it is 200%

Though at the same time getting them to focus on new stuff can be an enormous challenge for everybody involved and each person is different in how they may comply or completely kick off. Even a simple slight change in habit or routine can become the biggest mountain for all involved

But autistic people do have mega OCD, and the people supporting them need one thing above all else.....

PATIENCE - omg buckets of this stuff and some understanding

But one you do learn is patience

I'm just weird with some weird traits I guess

I try stick to the limit of 2 outdoor primaries, 2 indoor primaries, 2 secondaries, one or two fun things that aren't the most practical.

There is always that temptation to get more though, especially if it's a good deal. I've basically bought and sold second hand to get to loadouts that I would use, rather than go "Ooo pretty must buy" then leave it gathering dust.

Current list:

Outdoor:

E&L AK74N

Real Sword SVD

Indoor:

E&L AKS74UN

TM KSG

Secondaries:

WE Makarov

Gunslinger AK SMG

Fun things:

Dan Wesson 6" python revolver

Other:

LCT AIMS

I found that I initially kept buying due to most airsoft guns being fairly featureless and mediocre (build quality, performance, etc).

I ended up selling all of them and just buying one really expensive and high quality gun. Now I no longer feel the need for any other one.

6 months in and I own 7 RIFS.

Tokyo Marui Famas F1 (Being upgraded with rewound motor, stronger spring, Mosfet, R Hop, V2 gears etc)

Tokyo Marui Famas SV Hybrid, Made out of two boneyard Famas.

Tokyo Marui M1911 Strike Warrior.

ICS CXP-APE with extended Laylax Tightbore Barrel, Mosfet, Prommy Purple Rubber and black mamba silencer.

ICS CXP-15 (Being upgraded for 11.1v Lipo use, Mosfet, Prommy Purple Rubber, stronger spring and short stroked piston).

Cyma F2000, Upgraded with SHS Green Motor, Prommy Purple Rubber and Mosfet. (Back in for upgraded Laylax tightbore barrel, new metal hop up unit).

Jing Gong SL8, not yet arrived but in the post. This will be converted to DMR.

This is how I justify it all.

I have all the bases covered, The Famas were used for CQB, but the one being upgraded will be used for medium range engagements, I am a big fan of the Famas from an ergonomics point of view. The other one is for abusive CQB.

The ICS CXP Ape is my long range AEG, it has fantastic range for what it is. Heavy though!

The F2000 is my favourite to use rifle, it turns heads, however the range is not great and has a flimsy proprietary magwell plate which causes the BB's to go into the receiver body when removing magazines. Trying to get this sorted out along with more upgrades, I intend this to be my all-round rifle, but if the loose BB issue is not sorted then I may have to give up on it.

The TM Strike Warrior is just cool looking and fine as a side arm. If I were to get any other pistol it would be an AEP for the cold months.

The ICS CXP-15 I got real cheap on black Friday, it's the metal version and its by the far the shortest rifle I have, This is being modified for ultimate ROF for use in CQB. I may use this as a ridiculous sidearm when sniping.

The Jing Gong is my first foray into something approaching a sniper. This will be turned into a DMR. If I enjoy the playstyle then my next purchase would be an SRS Silverback.

I am really slowing down on my purchasing now though. I want to make sure what I have now are shooting perfect and the way I want it. I love Bullpups, however they aren't the best or most reliable performers, so bought some more normal looking rifles that are more reliable for now until the Bullpups have been modified.

Ermm.. since starting this thread, I seem to have bought a further 5 RIFs :-o

Sucker for a bargain me ;)

It helps if you're happy to but 2nd hand gear (mostly almost new) and are prepared to deal with any 'niggles' as a result - which as I said, is half the fun.

I need to make a list as I'm starting to struggle to remember them all!

As for skirmishing, agree that you can only use one or two at a time, but I share them with my son (so use 4-6 at a time) and ring the changes, which is also good for keeping your game/tactics fresh.

Christmas is coming too...... ;)

I can relate to this and may end up doing the same at some point. Out of interest, what did you end up with?

I ended up buying an Umarex/VFC G28 GBBR (Deluxe Edition)

I would definitely recommend just investing in one gun instead of many!

I understand some people enjoy collecting different guns and I would never stop people buying them, it's a great hobby after all.

But for actual gaming I initially stuck with one primary. This allowed me to save up for a better gun. I was able to afford a higher end gun rather than spending the money on a collection of other guns. This has a number of other positives as well. You get to know the gun inside and out. I know how well it works and how it performs in pretty much every circumstances.  Things like range, reaction to weather, best weight ammo, hop settings etc.

All these things add to making the gun perform better, far more than spending money on a new barrel or motor or the latest magic hop rubber.

I recently brought a reserve primary which is a spare for me and my daughter and I give it a run out in some games. But to be honest, every time I grab my LVOA I realise why I lusted after it for so long and won't be replacing her as my primary for sometime.

Pistols are slightly different. My regular is a Cybergun 1911 only because I love the platform and the stainless version caught my eye when they first came out and when I handled one some months later I decided I needed it.

It replaced an old Army R17 Glock which had come to the end of its life.

I also have a TM MK23 Socom. I run this on specific games where I need silence and range.

Like I said, it's each to their own and good luck to all, but I have never felt compelled to buy lots of guns.

Now, if we are talking about kit, well that's a different matter..............

CBH

I've somewhat changed my stance since I last posted on here.

I've now gone for having a gun in each class, with some being outdoor guns and some indoor.

Assault rifle: E&L AK74UN with KA GP30 grenade launcher

Carbine: E&L AKS74UN

LMG: A&K PKM

Sniper: Real Sword SVD

Shotgun: Tokyo Marui KSG (currently for sale)

Secondary: Gunslinger AK SMG

Next on the list is a nagant revolver and a stechkin pistol. Seeing as I currently don't have any handguns.

Although it's more guns than I can use at any one time. It gives me the flexibility to change loadouts for different situations. Or if I'm getting tired lugging it around (Looking at you PKM!) I can switch to something lighter.

I have to stop myself from being a collector!!

Not rifles or carbines, got my AR15 variant and I'm happy with that (although one day I intend on trading this in and upgrading to another AR15 variant rifle).

I am a pistol fan though.

I have:

Glock 17 (airsoft)

Colt 1911 (PFC)

Walther PPK (PFC)

Colt SAA (one PFC and one Replica)

Colt Trooper (Blank Firer)

on my list is:

SigSauer P226 (and P228)

Colt Python

S&W M&P

Glock 19

Colt 1860 Army

Guns, knives... anything sharp or shooty and I'm on it. I don't have many airsoft RIFs but that's not my fault. :D

Pistolwise; I have a G17 (recently pimped a little) and a G18 (stock Christmas gift). I love pistols, I'm better with a pistol over a rifle. So I thought I'd get a second holster and go a bit John Wick. Ambidextrous advantage, yay for oddness. I also have a G731 revolver (but I don't get it officially till tomorrow... birthday time!). This is more novel and I haven't really tried it yet, not properly. OK I executed a cardboard box, it asked for it. I may have to grow a moustache for it to feel at home.

M4 sopmod; externally blinged but not quite right yet. My starter rifle. It's an AEG but I have a history with gas guns so I'll be going down that route as soon as I win the lottery.

And my baby; the MAD MAX shotgun (Christmas gift). It's firing a little hot so I'll tweak the valves. Two barrels of fun.

I need an M249 SAW, the most fun RS gun I've ever fired. Definately a GBBR rifle, most likely an TM M4 - I NEED RECOIL! A bolt rifle is intriguing due to other guns I have and the similarities (25+ gas & spring, mostly custom). I'll try to restrict myself to one of each class. Pistols will be allowed to flourish...

So when is enough enough? That's a tough one. Probably when I've got the best (for me) from each class. Technically I've only bought one out of fours RIFs so far :D 100% guilt free (life's too short for it anyway...)

Since starting the sport (thanks to my son taking an interest) I've told myself - several times - right, that's enough gun wise. I have more than I can practically use by a long stretch.

So why do I have no restraint when I see another RIF that seems to shout 'BUY ME - I'M A BARGAIN'!!

The vast majority have been used buys and there's no doubt that there are some great (and not so great) buys out there. I love to tinker, so that has helped with various guns having been stripped, upgraded etc which is a process I find almost as enjoyable as using them.

So am I the exception or the rule? Do most stick to one, or two or end up amassing a collection of a dozen or more as I seem to have done (in a relatively short time too)?

I just like RIFs I guess!
I think we need a support group! !! A.G.A (airsoft guns anonymous). I know i have enough!! But still trawl the site looking at whats for sale. Its an illness! An illness i tell ya

The gas guns. Couldn’t be bothered to dig out the boring AEG’s lol. I need to see someone and get help apparently.

Just think, if you sold all these, and your AEGs, and just kept one of each, you could probably buy yourself a pretty nice car.

GHK AK has a deposit on it, forged GHK m4 is for sale. Mega arms .308 is having a 3d printed nozzle and hop to take vsr bucking and barrels. Then if it passes my test it earns a spot, if it doesn’t, that’s going too. Scar H was my first gas gun. The money I’d get for it isn’t really worth me selling it. G36c is the same. P90 is an awesome gun but with horrendous mags. The advantage of it is it has an internal gas chamber so I can hpa tap it without having a tube to the mags. My 3 TM’s are awesome, as is the VFC m40a5. That thing will throw a .45 past 90m straight

Jesus dude. That's some collection!

How often do you get to play with each of these? They don't just collect dust as a wall decoration do they?  :o
