Members,
(for some of you that's an apt description
)
Over the years this forum, & others, have repeatedly warned members of the risks associated with online private sales, in particular how you pay for the stuff you desire.
Numerous times its been pointed out that if you pay via bank transfer, or PayPal friends & family, you'll have absolutely no support network to fall back on when stuff doesn't arrive.
Yet, still people are doing it, in the last fortnight I've had a number of members contact me, concerned they've been scammed, & when I've told them to start a dispute, for some there's been an awkward silence, & eventually they admit to paying using an unsupported method.
One of the members agreed to pay this way because the seller had a profile here going back 15 years.
FFS NO.
We dont accept any responsibility for private sales here, nor do we vouch for members, in a time where everyone generally visits dozens of websites every day, any one of those could lead to your pc/tablet/phone being hacked, so the best rule of thumb is to trust no one, & cover your arse when paying for something.
The Admin team here do care, but we're members & players just like you, we do this in our spare time for free, we're constantly monitoring & rejecting bogus account registrations, but we dont have superpowers & we can't help people that won't help themselves.
So if an unsupported payment method is asked for, consider that a massive red flag, but if your still considering going ahead with a purchase, ask for proof to back up the payment details, images of utility bills or drivers license, all with matching names & addresses etc, confirmed contact numbers, ideally a landlines, & if a seller isn't prepared to supply proof, walk away, its not worth the risk.
