Hi All,

Myself and a couple of mates have been toying with the idea of getting into Airsoft - we are long, long time video gamers who favor the military shooters mainly the battlefield series, and have been paintballing on a few occaisons but the replica weapons and gear associated with Airsoff is a real draw

Personally I have always had an interest in the modern military, vehicles, weapons kit the works, and have recently been watching plenty of youtube videos of UK skirmishes and i have to say i cannot wait get involved

I have contacted a couple of sites, and will be looking to a few walk on games under my belt before getting ukara and my own weapon

One issue slowing me down at the minute is logistics - i am based bear Crewe, South Cheshire - and there doesnt appear to be many venues nearby

A couple that may be a possibility are Urban 6 Airsoft who do CQB at Burton on Trent (bit of a trek for me) and a monthly outdoor skirmish at Swynerton which isnt too far

There is also Anzio Camp nr Leek or Zed Adventures at Warrington - have any of you guys had any experience of these sites? Can you recommend anywhere?

And one final questions - regarding purchasing my own weapon, i have already done a little reasearch and once registered will be geeting an M4 AEG - but coul anyone recommend a manufacturer - budget is probably around £200 initially - but would like this weapon to last a while and allow me to upgrde, especially with grips, sights etc

Any info will be gratefully appreciated - thanks in advice - and hope to meet some of you on the battlefield in the future

 
Im not from that area but i have been too two ZED ADVENTURE sites and they are run very well with nice people so im sure that would be a great place to start. Good luck mate.

Also from Crewe and new to airsoft was looking at the Trojan airsoft woodland site in Macclesfield and Anzio camp maybe could look at sorting a car share out to a couple of sites??

I've recently made Anzio in Leek a regular occurrence and it is brilliant! It offers great cqb action as there are several buildings with multiple rooms and floors. There is also the ground between them to cover and some open spaces for snipers, although snipers are very rare at Anzio and I wouldn't recommend getting a sniper until you have been to quite a few games (it isn't the same as video games portray it to be).

Check out vids on youtube of Anzio; there's some really good ones that show all the different parts and scenarios of the site.

Like Suzuki said, eye pro and boots are definite things to look at!

Thanks Andy - I have some boots, and will definitely be looking at eye protection if (and I'm sure it will) becomes a regular thing

Anzio would probably be the regular venue for me - so would you recommend mesh or polycarb (??) goggles/glasses?

Ps I can't snipe on video games so doubt very much I'd entertain the thought for AS :-)

 
From personal experience, I prefer mesh, however I wouldn't rule out the polycarb option. Only issue with glasses is fogging which can be a pain; hence my preference for mesh.

First skirmish booked at Anzio for this Saturday (Sorry mike, car full this time)

even though have not even started, i have already bought some kit off ebay :-)

I just know i will be spending the next 2 months trawling the net (and pestering you guys) for what gun to get - i do like the look of the G&G M4's but am a little put off by the plastic on the combat machine range - would i be out of my depth with a Top Tech ?

The top tech guns are awesome. The reason we recommend the combat machine guns is that at £120ish they are miles better than any sub £200 guns. The difference between a top tech and another similar priced gun would be more complicated with pro's and cons to each option. To be honest, the plastic will be good quality and will not be too much of an issue looks wise, it will however make the gun lighter.

 
Are they technically more difficult to use or maintain?

I'd rather spend an extra £100 for a better quality weapon if I'm not inhibiting myself in anyway

Although weight may be a factor as I believe Anzio is mostly indoor/cqb action

 
Suz, you need to move your tongue slightly to the left: you're tickling my haemorrhoid!

There's nothing about a Top Tech that needs any more looking after than a standard Combat Machine - there are differences, but as a new user all you need to do is take care of your battery/ies, keep dirt out of the muzzle, and clean the barrel (carefully) every so often.

Eventually stuff needs lubrication, but there's little point going on about it here b/c the jargon wont make any sense to you yet. By the time it needs doing, you'll know what we're on about - some people have run guns for years without lube (I have an ICS AKS-74U which hadn't been serviced at all when I got it (hammered) 2nd-3rd-5th-who-knows? hand and it was still firing consistently as it was designed to).

There are some intermediate models also - Combat Machines with metal receivers basically and you may prefer that idea over plastic. But bear in mind that you'll be carrying it all day so weight is an issue. If you have the money available, yeah I'd happily recommend you buy a Top Tech as a first gun - but before that you'd be best renting a few times and meet a few people, talk to them about their guns, get a hold of them and try shouldering them. See what suits your body and hands, because three hundred bar is a wallop if you decide a month later that you wish you'd bought an ICS L85A2, for eg, or that actually the dirt free version behind a keyboard is more fun to you after all.

There is certainly no rush for me to buy, as i have not even been to 1st skirmish yet - that is this Saturday and i cannot wait - i'm more giddy than my kids at christmas :-)

Hopefuly, if all goes to plan, i will be going whole hog and getting membership, defence etc so have at least 2 months to browse, pester, mither and harass the guys at the venue (and you good folk here)

Unfortunately (for you guys) i have a little OCD, and have to know the ins & outs of everything so i'm sure i'll be a right royal pain in the backside with questions (plus it passes the time at work between skirmishes :-) )
