Help with DIY Polarstar FCU Harness

Hi all,

I've been trying to shorten the harness of my FCU ribbon cable, I bought some generic cable online and none seems to work with the FCU.

Can someone with the knowledge explain to me what I'm going wrong? 

Are the wires not routed correctly?

original cable is all black looks the same in terms of pin placement but longer.
 

The shorter cable was bought as I thought all cables were the same.

Perhaps the connector types are incompatible. I had a quick look and there's no wires crossed over so gotta be the connectors looking similar but actually not

Perhaps you can check the continuity

I will see what I can do. Good shout on the connector. Push come to shove I can always just get a polarstar cable and shorten the cable.
