Double eagle M61

My cousin bought a Double Eagle M61 spring sniper and I copied him, unaware at the time that this airsoft gun was more of a backyard plinker. I want to upgrade it, would it involve a lot of work? Would I have to drill holes or things like that and are there any parts you could recommend?

Unfortunately, many of the parts are proprietary and/or off spec. It is not really upgradeable.

That's a shame, I was going to get a specna arms sa-s02 high power version Specna Arms SA-S02 CORE™ Sniper Rifle w/Scope & Bipod; High-Power Version but it was out of stock so I went with the double eagle. Funnily enough, the specna would have only been a bit more expensive

I didn't know much about airsoft then. Tbh the double eagle can hit human sized targets 8/10 times at a range of 40M so it isn't unusable

While it is not unusable, you are unlikely to have a fun experience unless you want to be super sneaky and can use cover very effectively. You are going to be seriously outranged by most AEGs.

We all make buying mistakes early on and many of us continue making them when we are more than experienced enough to know better.

I do have an AEG, I am planning to buy a TM hi capa as a side arm when I use the double eagle, have a feeling it will get used more than I am hoping to. I dont think I will regret this purchase

To be fair, if airsoft is new to you, & the rifle performs OK, for its price bracket, then just get out & give it a try, don't throw any more money at it than is absolutely necessary, maybe a scope & a bit of scrim net or other camouflage.
Reason I say that is because many players come in to the game thinking that sniping is for them, only to quickly realise it isn't lol.
Your mindset is equally, if not more so, as important as your rifle & associated kit such as ghillies etc.
Fieldcraft & patience are imperative to doing well in the role, but the call of the distant firefight proves to be too much temptation for the average wannabe sniper.

Tackle is right; sniping is an acquired taste for sure. I absolutely love stealth and being sneaky so sniping fit naturally for me.

But I know people who cannot stand even being behind cover for more than a few minutes.

I would play some more games, see what role strikes you as more fun, then if you do decide to snipe, pick up a Tac41; they are great out of the box and require little upgrading to be good. They are a bit pricier, but some of the sport/lite ones are £ 200-ish.

This. Playing as an effective sniper you need to rely on field craft and knowing when to (and more importantly not to) move or shoot. By all means give it a try and see if you like it though

You pay extra for faster shipping and it still takes the fuckers the best part of a week to send it.

They aren't. Complete lemon. You'll see the odd VSR looking part somewhere but something completely proprietary somewhere else. Barely any info on it online so unless you've already gone through the process of kitting out a vsr or clone to know what to look for you're stuck.
