I’ve been playing for about 3 years now and I’ve fancy a dmr maybe a bolt action rifle maybe.  Not 100% on the sniper role don’t fancy going down the road of been in a ghille. Anyone got any suggestions on a good place to start with one? Majority of sites they has to be a real steel equivalent in order for it to be used as a dmr. Prefer gas over aegs.

Gas DMRs are... not for everyone. You lose the consistency of an HPA or AEG setup (and consistency is really important for a DMR), but it's not unusable and is way more fun. My favourite DMR is built on an MWS platform and is really, really good. During good weather on propane, mine tends to chrono between 1.8 and 1.86J, so a variance of about 0.06J which is easily consistent enough for a DMR (and anyone who says it isn't just needs to learn to shoot). However, the downside is that I can't use it during the winter as the variance increases to a whopping 0.3J (tested it today in 3 celcius with heavy mists sapping any warmth from the magazines further, plus I left the magazines out all morning so they were very, very cold!), which isn't consistent enough as that starts affecting how well it hops the BBs. When it comes to AR-15 based DMRs, you can get away with a mk12 like I have at sites that require it to be a real DMR platform, as while it's technically an SPR, it's usually an exception to the "must be .308" rule for airsoft DMRs.

In case it isn't obvious, my DMR is the top one ?

I kinda fancy a DMR role, mainly due to being a lard arse so no sprinting to the target or tactical advances but my local site has a max 1.2j 360fps on everything except a bolt action. I still want to keep trying my GBBR's tho, might take my mk12 aeg to see how it fairs.

I'm tempted to buy a Marui M249 and stick a scope on it.

If i can't hit them with quality, i'll hit them with quantity. (Courtesy of the 1,000-round magazine capacity.)

I'm actually going to take my bolt action to the next game and see how i get on.

I usually take a couple of AEG's as plan B if GBBR's don't behave, the mk12 has only ever been crono'd and sits at 1.15j 352.4fps so might be an ideal pew for me.

UK sites?

Personally I've not played at a single site that's told me my DMR has to match a real steel of any sort.

Do you mind me asking what sites they are?

I remember when dmr's were becoming a "thing", quite a few sites announced that they had to have an irl equivalent, but that was many years ago, lot of the sites & organisers I frequented are gone, so not sure who now specifies that rule.

I did agree with it though, as Jez pointed out above, some players just take the piss, a big scope doesn't make an M4 a dmr, nor does a box mag make it a support weapon. ?

If you want performance you stay away from vanilla gas guns. It's either hpa or custom built aeg.

All three of my local-ish site do this: Gunman, Imperium and UCAP.

If you want to go gas DMR, I’d recommend a SCAR H, either WE or VFC. Mine was lovely, shot very well, just wasn’t really my style of play.

Scar h , G3 , FAL , SR25 , MK12 are all good options . Avoid the M14 as it isn't as comfortable with weight as other designs although I still love my M14 it rarely gets a look in . My most consistent , accurate and long range rifle is easily my GBB fal and that's not even running at dmr power

Weirdly enough, the "traditional" rifle stock shape of the M14 seems to suit me better (at least in the dmr role anyway), whereas if I'm clearing buildings etc, then rifles with vertical pistol grips are a better fit.

I think it's just what you get comfortable with, maybe a certain amount of muscle memory, all my younger marksmanship training & live firing was on traditional stocked rifles, mainly 7.62 & .303, guess it's like riding a bike, you never really forget.

I think as a DMR, I've found the LCT As Val to be pretty comfy, and it can quickly be mechanically changed to the usual 1.14 J full-auto. Problem is it's ridiculously expensive for an out-of-the-box DMR

I think if I had to go with a site compliant DMR platform, it would be one of the Delta Armory Mk.11s that probably have the best price-performance ratio with the short 5.56 magazines that can easily be configured to a normal rifle
