Deans plugs / connectors? (Best place to buy & which)

Hey, I'm looking to switch my guns to Deans and -in short- was wondering which are actually the best to buy?

(EDIT: I SHOULD ADD THAT I'LL PROBABLY GET A TECH TO DO THIS FOR ME as if it isn't too expensive there's no point me buying a better soldering iron etc to do it myself and not to the same standard

I guess the store will have their own already, but maybe not)

I saw a pair, as in male and female piece, on AirsoftPeak (for $1.69) but then noticed eBay and Amazon sellers actually offer them at a better price.

Noticed a review of the latter says they require 'tinning'

I've not heard this term before when any airsofters have talked about using Deans. I was wondering if some of the connectors come 'pre-tinned' or something? Which would explain the higher price.

Regardless of that, if anybody you could suggest a place to buy some from that would be great.

Don't worry about tinning, it's a soldering thing and it just means coating the connection with a little bit of solder, if you're getting a tech to do it then you don't even need to think about it.

Don't really need a tech to put on some dean connectors

just a local m8 who can solder a little bit with iron etc......

it ain't as intricate as most pcb work so almost anybody can do if you got the stuff & 10mins

when doing the battery - cut one lead & solder at a time

ffs do not cut both battery wires in one go = major short & BANG !!!!

only other thing to remember is to slide on heatshrink before you solder connector

(and follow the correct layout/guide of polarity & male connector on gun)

None of those are genuine Deans connectors for a start, if they were they'd be a lot more expensive. Try component shop or a decent RC supplier.

Fitting them is relatively easy as long as you have a decent soldering iron and a steady hand.

Tinning as mentioned above is the process of flowing solder onto the parts to be joined prior to actually soldering them together. When it's done right it produces a far better join with less probability of getting a dry joint (where the solder doesn't flow properly and you get a mechanical joint with poor electrical conduction). I always tin the connector and the end of the wire before joining them but I learned how to solder in the aerospace industry...

As SD mentioned, don't forget the heatshrink, don't cut both battery wires at the same time and the socket always goes on the battery.

And remember female plugs go on the batteries, males for the gun.

You don't want the contacts exposed on the batteries for obvious reasons.
