CYMA M14 - CYMA in general

Alreet lads,

My M4 broke on me at Skirmish on Sunday. Not had a look at it yet, but I hope it's a simple fix (had a similar issue previously).

Anyway, it got me thinking that I'd like to get another rifle either to replace it or have as reserve.

I've seen the CYMA M14 SOCOM for £120 delivered... but have not heard much about CYMA.

Do any of you lot have any CYMA stuff? Do you know about them? On the listing, it states the gearbox is v7 - does anybody have any advice/heard anything about this gearbox?

Any advice/feedback/stories would be cracking cheers!

Cyma are good, very good in fact. Pretty much bullet proof gearboxes and tough as nails bodies.

They are also TM compatible so upgrade parts are a doddle, though to be honest they don't really need them apart from a tightbore, spring downgrade (they are normally 400fps+) and maybe a new hop rubber. Apart from a tightbore I have done naff all to any of mine and they are going good and strong after a few years of abuse.

Ak range is great, good starter guns in the 028 range, great guns from the 040 range onwards and the ones in the middle arn't too shabby either.

I have owned a

2x 028 (47 standard), bought one, liked it, but sold it so bought another about 6 month later, plastic bodied but fine otherwise

039 (47 tacitcal), still got it and its a beast out the box

040 (AK105), bought second hand and she was abused then, abused it for another 6 months did nothing to it apart from fire a bucket of bb's and sold it on

050 RPK74 bought when first came out, but was a bit heavy for me so sold it on and its still going strong so I hear.

might be another one I have forgoten, but not sure

have heard good things about the mp5 range and the m14 range as well. Tempted to get a m14 myself (wood though), but trying to justify it atm.

review site with 40 odd other reviewers views on the m14 socom. Be aware though this is a US site and they fire at a higher fps than we do.

My CYMA MP5A5 has a decent stock hop up rubber, but the M14 , I heard, with a TM hop up installed, is pin point accurate...Which sounds more than pleasing

good choice I think, if anyone on the forums remembers my little set of threads about the CYMA M14 then they'll remember that i really desperately wanted it but people repeated again and again that it was quite heavy, which...it actually is, something i didnt realise, but i'm sure you are stronger than i am so it'll be good for you, also it looks cool.

I've got a CYMA Tactical AK47 and it was excellent straight out of the box. I was worried that it might be too hot, but it chrono'd at 349, 351 & 349 fps - fine for Skirmish.

I then ordered a SAT Variable Velocity Device because that chrono session was 1st thing in the morning and later that day I accidentally hosed somebody on full auto from about 5m and drew blood from his face... (I shot him on purpose, you understand, but he surprised me and I didn't reach for the fire select lever before letting him have it...) Anyway, I wanted to be able to take the same gun to sites where the limit is 328 +/- 5% or 350fps hard limit. This is where my troubles began...

1st I'd never taken a gun apart before and it took me several attempts to put the gearbox back together properly. As it happens, the VVD was worse than bloody useless and I've since had a refund, but I had to have the gun apart again to put in a bodge so I could play the next day, having stayed overnight to play 2 days on the trot at The Stan.

Then it had to come apart again to get the VVD out to be sent back and I thought it'd be worth trying with a M110 spring, since it was in bits. Well that chrono'd around 300fps so I wasn't leaving that in there. Once again in bits. It's been a learning curve, and I don't regret it, but I have damaged the thread on the gearbox which holds the fire selector lever on the outside of the body tight enough to work. So I've had to buy another gearbox shell. Fortunately I got a pretty good deal for a 2nd hand one from a bloke on here, which has just arrived so, you guessed it, it'll soon be in bits again.

Now, I wouldn't want you to think that there was anything wrong with the gearbox or other parts. It was my own clumsiness and also lack of experience that caused the problem. If I'd known how to get the gearbox and external parts back into the receiver easily to begin with, I'd not have damaged a tiny bit of metal that connects the external lever and then overtightened the bolt that holds it...

By now I'm a 'kin expert!

Bought myself a couple of guns from Tiawangun. one being the cyma m14 socom, had it out on the sites twice. and firing brilliantly on .25s and .28s. a wee bit wayward on 2,s though,. it cost me £107 delivered give or take a few pence. and you can pick up mags for around £10 and cheaper.
