chrismmilling PLEASE READ THIS

Yup - good idea to just inform community and leave it at that....

Finally - I did actually suggest that buy/sell should maybe have say a min post req like say 100 or 200 posts

and/or 2 or 3 months to post stuff for sale - other places do this and gives a tiny bit of piece of mind perhaps
Yeah seen that on a few sites, may be worth admin looking at this possibly? Cheers SD.

Personally I don't think its worth it, I mean I will take mateyguv as an example. It seems hes a legit seller but he only has a few posts, however he has airsoft stuff he wants to sell and he hasn't scammed. I think all you have to do is be careful and rational. If the postcount is low maybe if you live near them you could ask to go and see it and perhaps buy it in cash, but if you think and sense it is dodgy stay well away.

I am sorry to hear your loss and I hope you get things sorted out :)

Yeah fair point mate and cheers, I won't be gifting PayPal in future that's for sure, I took a gamble and lost on this occasion so will take it on the chin and move on.

haha when I was younger I lost about £300 worth of virtual goods I was trying to sell to scammers, that may brighten your day up. I guess we had to learn the hard way.

On a dating site??! Lol! I'm not launching a manhunt for the guy, it's not worth the time over £20, just so long as the community are aware of my issues in dealing with him in case he pops up again. His PayPal addy has the same name, just in case he tries to "sell" more stuff under a different name.
I'm a meticulous person haha what can I say, even found him on an old forum for mg cars, was doing deals there too :P

Well maybe we need to do something if hes been scamming alot of people for a little money

I'm going to sound like a right t**t here, but this thread shows EXACTLY why we rewrote the rules last year.

Consider this a PSA folks, follow the recommendations in the classifieds rules and this sort of thing can be better avoided.

OP, message me if there's anything we can do to help.

Wow, I made it to forum chat :) From my point of view I am very aware that a seller with no posts and limited time on the forum is a bad start but I want to sell my stuff so thought this is the place. I did contact admin before hand and asked permission which helped. I also lucked out and the first gun I sold was to a forum moderator who kindly left me feedback which really helped. Iv also donated 10% of what I got for all of it to the forum as a thank you. Unfortunately I wouldn't buy from someone like me (post counts etc) on other forums cause iv been stung too. No simple solution unfortunately.

Thanks for the mention of me in a positive light

Thanks Finius, I think I've said all I need to say, namely I took a chance and lost out, and to try to make others aware that gifting PayPal isn't a good idea unless you know the person involved. Had it been a £200 AEG then obviously I wouldn't have done it. I was aware of the PayPal related posts you mention and don't in any way suggest there's any fault on the part of AF-UK, it was purely down to me. I just wouldn't want anyone else to lose out to this guy that's all. I lost the price of a few beers, its annoying but I have learned from my mistake.

How about something like:

You must have at least 100 posts or something to be able to buy or sell including a post in the introduction section

Then what about people who have quit airsoft and want to clear out all their gear? I've been a member for about 7 months and don't quite have 100 posts, all it would do is kill the for sale section.

If you look in the Forum Feedback section, post-count restrictions on the sales forums has been discussed more times than I've had hot dinners.

We don't do it cause statistically, most of our new contributors have arrived via the sales forums.

If you look at the classifieds rules/recommendations, and follow them thoroughly, it's a lot harder to get scammed (long story short, it's the buyers responsibility to assure himself the seller is legit and we've outlined how you can do that easier).

If anyone ever has any doubts about the legitimacy of a transaction, we also have the mod-team you can PM - especially myself.

congrats - you just hit 100 posts with that - lol

ok but then you been here 7 months which is over 3 months suggestion so to speak

also as numerous other forums have "some" guidelines - then why not also have some too ?

Or it could perhaps be a possible attraction for the "try it on-ers"

I'm not 8itching or pulling hairs but it is just a simple suggestion that "may" reduce the risks slightly

yes you may get the odd genuine person quitting airsoft but then they should perhaps be fully

informed about meeting criteria and be prepared to provide ref or proof from the outset

well done MateyGuv at least this guy shows he has some integrity and willing to provide assurance

Just my thoughts but if left a little unchecked then it "could" allow/attract the not so genuine people

Not having a go at mods or this site but a few said other sites have some guidelines so why not here too ?

I quote the rules (for those banging on about post-count restrictions still):

Transaction Advice

- When buying or trading, we recommend that you take down the following details of the other party: full name, address, telephone number, email, alternate telephone number (work or mobile). It is wise to check the address is legitimate and that the telephone number is answered by the person you are dealing with. We also recommend that you request a photo of the items with a piece of paper next to it with the sellers username and contact details written on.

- We recommend PayPal for online transactions due to their excellent buyer and seller protection. Bear in mind that methods such as cheque, postal order, bank transfer or other may not be protected and as a result of using them you may not be able to retrieve your losses should anything go wrong.

- If you are paying for goods via PayPal, please make sure your payment is labelled for goods/services. Sellers may ask you to label your payment as a gift to avoid PayPal fees. However, this will prevent you from being able to access any of the PayPal buyer protection services (i.e. if something goes wrong, your money cannot be refunded). Should sellers ask you to do this, it may be better to offer to pay the fees out of your own pocket instead.

Help

- If you find any of the above rules unclear or would like to ask us a question please PM an admin/moderator. We would much rather you contacted us than just went ahead and did something.
If people still want to discuss post-counts again, can you please do so in the appropriate section of the forums.

if I had been corrected back then then I probably would of shut my mouth and not stirred up
any debate again

fair enough it is down to the buyer then, I know that now soz for not reading all the guidlines
properly - my fault alone but am a bloke and males don't always fully read/follow instructions

but my fault - sorry like I said for stirring this up again

Good chap.

Next time, if you don't get a reply, use the report tool to draw attention to your issue, or pm another mod (my advice would be to pm all of us and one of us will pick it up).

I know I'm very late to this party but just had a read through, hes on a dating site aye? He's also engaged going by his facebook. So,I'm not going to suggest anyhting - but if you theoretically wanted to get your own back...
