I’ve literally just bought this in an auction bundle, obviously it’s an M84 type grenade

Google isn’t helping me, other than with inert replicas or DIY builds, and with a valve in the base I’m not planning on gaining access to any hidden parts by releasing the pin without some space to throw it away just in case

Are there any branded retail ones that it may be or is it likely to be a custom piece?

Gas valve on the bottom , looks like one of the mini green gas containers , you decant from big cans into it , does the top unscrew or flip open revealing a nozzle ?
I’m not going to get around to having a good check over until the weekend, but that’s a good call with a pointer on where to look
Thanks

Probably won't be, but it reminds me of the gimmick lighters I see at militaria fairs a bunch. Has the same black writing around it
It does look so close to the photos on there with the exception of the two pins
I haven’t looked closely at the top of the spoon which does look like there is a break in the corner like the lighter.
I’m back in the action for some more lovely bargains so will give it another look over later

It could of course be the same tooling in factories making all of these

This one came in a bag full of paintball gear, but the lots around it were Airsoft, so my assumption is that the seller put it in the wrong bag (it isn’t unknown to have reusable bangs in paintball, but pretty rare compared to Airsoft)

I’ve got some time to wait for my next lot, so have had another nose.

It is looking very like the lighters with the split spoon , (it does have a second pin) but nothing obvious to flick open other than releasing the pin
(Of course a sound FX bang and a lighter could have a dummy split spoon to just pop open the top and not loose parts)

The top does have give to turn, but as it’s in my car and in a pretty full car park I’m resisting the urge to investigate further right now

@Austeyr is right

After quite a bit of “careful” examination, pin pressing the fill valve - “That smells familiar, could it be the added smell to propane, butane or one of the green gas mixes etc?”, then releasing the ringpull and feeling the pin for a spring release -
Nothing happens - but it does have the top of a valve stem in there, without the spoons release affecting it
Fiddle with the top that does turn a little, undo the bottom screw and the centre becomes loose to wiggle more but no joy

Another examination of the remaining top ‘cap’ and no joy, until it’s held backwards (with the spoon at my fingers instead of secure in the palm!
….. and we have a storm proof style lighter

Also in the bundle was another lighter, a vintage zippo in a leather belt pouch
(When you’re clearing out your gear check your vest pouches, especially when putting to auction ….. or don’t and I’ll get bonus surprises) IMG_1957.webp
