Hi all

Looking for some recommendations for boots for big boys with wide feet, eBay is flooded with iturri, altberg and magnum boots all which seem decent enough but want advice from those that have wide feet and what they find suitable for them. Searching the forum brought up an old thread but didn't really answer my question.

It did however bring up that merino wool socks make a huge difference so recommendations on those would be good too as it's a bloody minefield on eBay, I get hot feet so idea on the thinner side.

Thanks everyone!

I don't know if i have wide feet, but i do have a pair of Magnum boots and they're very comfortable and surprisingly light.

Iturri Cold Wet Weather boots; go a size up from what you normally wear and get the Wide fitting.  They are the best boots that I have worn in 40+ years of wearing boots.

Same here, worn magnums for years, have 2 pairs now ? one for work and the other for Airsoft. Worn a few times they fit like slippers.

I must've been unlucky as every pair magnum boots I've owned in the past 10 years have been crap. The leather was paper thin and they fell apart after 6 months

I think they pulled the doc martens strat of cheaping out and living on their reputation.

So an old pair will be great, not so much a new pair.

Lowas were what i moved to after my magnums went and i'd say are superior in all respects.

Magnum's used to be made in Northampton, 14 years ago they shifted manufacturing to China and the quality fell off a cliff.

maybe not!

The magnums I have are over 17 years old and in perfect condition!!!

The most recent purchase (from screwfix of all places) you can tell the difference in quality but they still aren’t bad.(as per the post above)

Long may my original ones live on ?

How big is big?  Grafters have a very good size range.

Let's just say I'm more akin to the Michelin man than Usain bolt.

Thanks for the input everyone, gonna cross magnum boots off the list as they don't sound all that good unless they're old! Shall look at iturri and soft through the minefield of eBay!

I wear my ex issue magnums from my RAF days and they have always been amazing comfortable boots with a nice wide fit. Can't moan. They are hard wearing (15 year old boots and still plenty of tread)

If you can find them, La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II.

I have the leather version and man, the most comfortable boots i have ever worn. Plus they're stupid light.

Only downside is the price, they're not (too) cheap at €200ish.

Quick update to this for anyone wondering and to help any wide feet boys in the future:

I got some Iturri patrol boots in 11L and they fit like a glove and are ridiculously comfortable! Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting wide fitting boots!

Excellent!  They are superb boots; I wear a pair of those or AKU Pilgrims as my everyday footwear.

Can't thank you enough for the recommendation! They really are amazing boots, have worn them for a few hours so far and honestly forgot I had them on they are that comfortable, paired with some nice merino wool boot socks I don't think I've ever worn footwear quite as comfortable!

Iturri boots are great; the Cold Wet Weather boots are my regular walking boots and have survived everything that Dartmoor can throw at them, while being almost as comfortable as the patrol boots.

The lad lives in his Iturri patrols and has a pair of the Cold Wet Weather boots for Dartmoor, the Peak District and wandering around Sennybridge with an L85.

I’ve got both the Iturri patrols and the CCW variety’s, I found the patrol boots comfier but the leather wears quicker than the CWW. Both are superb boots though

eBay, there's a guy that sells all kinds of boots at very good prices, 48hr delivery too. I'll find his name and edit my comment ?

Edit: His username is "TheBootking"
