BFGs

Finally ordered one! I went with the yellow (hoping most people get black so I can tell which one is mine) shotgun primer. I found a 10% discount so saved £7 :)

I realise that these things get beaten up as they're tossed around the ground. Has anyone come up with any ideas how to reduce the damage though?

I've been looking around work and found some plastic wrap. It's the stuff you might see around wine bottles to stop them from being damaged in transit. I'll try it out when it comes and see if it has any impact on the grenade going off when thrown.

it will get scruffs n marks.. but it should be designed to not be damaged.

I would not recommend anyone to use low vis colours. also, even thou it is yellow remember to have a distinctice marking (that plastic warp could work for this purpose). I know some people put glow in the dark or reflective tape on them to find it easyer. I recently added my phone number and email to mine as it's nearly got lost a few too many times!

one thing that can be really annoying is when you know what room you throw it in (or think you know approcimatly), and later when you gonna pick it up its gone. you look around for ages and then when you've given up, someone given it to a marshall. sure it's meant well but it can be really annoying.

I've just paid £60 for it, I won't be leaving the area until I've picked it up! If I'm alive or dead is irrelevant. I've got some reflective tape from work which I'm putting on it. I'm thinking of stamping my name on it too.

What are the rings like on the pin? Are they small like a keyring or a big bigger? I've acquired some large ones from work and a retractable lanyard so I don't drop it.

I know the first game I use it I'll lose the pin and have to make do with some split pins! Haha

The reason I haven't got a BFG so far is because I know I'll lose the whole 'kin grenade, never mind the pin!

Although I'm thinking about using a cunning plan...

That's a good idea until the grenade lands on the fob when it's thrown and breaks it. There must be something out there that makes finding it easy!

Yeah, that's true. I was planning on adding something to the fob to make it water resistant, but yeah something for structural support might be necessary. Or a piece of paracord tied around the grenade with a 6" tail for the fob to attach to the end.

The tail would be a better idea. Might aswell tie a 20ft fishing line to it. Throw it and reel it in!

I could use a fishing rod to cast the grenade more accurately then. U r geniuz u iz

Even in CQB I've seen grenades get 'lost', best to mark them up in some distinctive and permanent fashion!

As for spare pins, just find the appropriate sized split pin and a load of key rings (you WILL lose them!).

A lot of people with the oshi's use reflective tape stuck around it so when you shine a decent torch on it you can see it pretty much anywhere, thats what ive done with mine anyway. I've also put some red tape on it with my name on it.

Was looking at some sort of key fob for the pin, but i have heard of people attaching para-cord to the unit itself so when you throw it, it has a sort of tail so you can see easily where it is flying, or long enough for you to keep hold of it.

the pin for my VTG is attached to the pouch via a short length of paracord, doesn't stop me losing them!

Exactly. "Lost".

Yeah, amazing how easily tape comes off stuff which gets thrown around. It must be the twigs or rubble or something, although it's strange how things get lost easier on large sites with lots of players who don't know each other...

I think it's ribbon so you can see where it went easier. I spose that for CQB use you probably could attach it to you with paracord, but I can underarm bowl a good 40m if I put my mind to it, the sort of distances I'd need to throw to get a nade from a foxhole/etc. into a trench at my home site and 40m of paracord loose enough to deploy quickly is a tanglemare waiting to happen!

Oh yeah, and last night I had a look on fleabay - you can get a set of 36 alphanumeric hardened steel punches for less than a tenner.

Might be worth using one of those lanyards that fishermen use to keep scissors on their vests.

Just fleabay searched that, Marcus. Was disappointed really - bit of bright coloured bootlace stylee string. But I did also get this, which might do for CQB.

I used mine loads yesterday.

Combat south are by far the cheapest place to get the primers. the likes of socom tactical buy from CS at £4 and resell at a £11! Also CS have trhe police training grenades that IMO are better made than the oshiboom grenades!

the police grenades aren't on their website, as with so much of their stock! how much are they charging for them?
