Another old newbie

Hi guys. I am just saying hello as I've been lurking as a visitor for a while and it seems rude not to join in.

I've bought an AEG, which I appreciate is not ideal for "proper" skirmishing (it's an ICS M4 in clear plastic), but as I'm not really sure if the whole skirmish experience is for me, at least I get to keep my big boy's toy if it's not.

I'd like to thank some of the more experienced forum members on here for the huge amount of information that they have filtered down through the forums to newbies like me. It's very much appreciated and has been very helpful in assisting me in my purchase. (Mainly by ensuring I don't waste money on so-called "pro" crap that is anything but.)

I get the feeling, possibly incorrectly, that skirmishing is something that people either love or hate. There don't seem to be many casual skirmishers. As I'd prefer not to make a complete ar$e of myself and get totally pebble-dashed while I am still learning, I ask if there are any sites that are particularly newbie-friendly in the West Midlands area?

My local is The Grange just a few miles west of coventry. Good site to play at for new people.

You would be wrong about what is ideal. An AEG is the best way to start. a GBB would be more awesome but far less practical. And as far as im aware, the ICS M4 is a pretty nifty piece of kit for its price.

I would have to say that almost 90% of airsofters are on the whole, "casual skirmishers" by which I mean, buy a gun and some camo, or just hire, go to a site and shoot people for a day, without thinking much more into it.

I play at sites that run games that are mostly filled with people who fit the above description, but I've gone a step further, learned to work on and modify guns, bought more realistic equipment and tuned my gun to perfection. That doesn't mean I suddenly can't play at regular sites and only attend milsim events.

Also, Skirmishing is not like marmite, it's the core of airsoft! If you don't like it, you're not an airsofter! EVERYONE who ever goes likes it.

You ought to go and see for yourself before forming these opinions. I'm not sure how you managed to build up that opinion from lurking on the forums.

I'd say that of all the communities I've ever been a part of, the airsofting community is the most accommodating for newbies. Everyone's very well mannered, friendly and helpful. The game relies on honesty, for a player to accept that they're hit and not cheat, so I think that vibe carries over to when they're off the game field too.

Find your local site and get down there for a weekend. You'll soon change your tune.

Perhaps I used the work "casual" inappropriately, but as you suggest, I ought to get out there and have a go myself before making too many assumptions.

I'm very interested in tuning my gun too, which is why I chose the ICS with it's split gearbox which seemed to me to make tuning a little easier.
