Another big name gone

Ahh....Arnies. Back in the day it was a great source of Airsoft news and reviews. I haven't used it in probably a decade now. I'm surprised that it was still going TBH.

Me too, maybe even 15 years, & tbh when I tried Googling the site it just came up with ancient pages I couldn't access, I assumed the place died years ago.

So in the scheme of things, when it comes to airsoft forums, what's left ?, obviously afuk lol, maybe zin might come back ?, any others ?

 
1st forum I ever joined. Still checked it most days but there really was sod all traffic with maybe only 2 or 3 people posting semi regularly.

 
Used some archived threads recently to help me out with my mc51 but when I joined here I did have a look at arnies and it didn't seem very active then so....it us and which ever Macks worthy market place will add chat function

 
It used to be my homepage, especially in the golden age of chinese clones - the news page was always ticking over when companies release press info and promo shots. Now in the age of social media and pushed content, manufacturers can just skip the middle man and show everything direct to consumers.

Gonna miss it, despite not being there for years. It's like your primary school being torn down. Makes no difference in your day to day, but you still want it there.

It's a pity but you could see it coming. The amount of threads that were archived and how little activity there was.

Still have fond memories of perusing the photo threads. Also some phenomenal review and technical threads. 

Will miss it when it's gone. At least they gave a bit of notice.

 
Yeah it is a shame. I've seen lots of forums gonover the years. Some were still a hive of activity. 

UKAZ & zeroin were the other places to be. 

But UKAZ disappeared no warning. And zeroin how knows... 

Other than this forum, only leaves a few small ones. And the big American forum went last year too. 

For me it's a shame. As I always find the forums far easier to navigate and find threads. Without having to scroll past hundreds of posts. 

When fb started banning groups, I was really shocked that the forums didn't take off again. 

 
One of the first forums I joined twenty odd years ago when I started. Lasted longer than many of the others.

 
I probably spent more time in off topic than any other thread. I met some real stand up people on armies, got lots of help (and maybe helped sometimes) with many an aeg/gbb. Just remembered I still haven’t got my pet prawns…

UK people didn't IMO. Discord was the popular choice until they changed their TOS recently. Most groups I know of have since moved to Whatsapp and/or Telegram.

The UK airsoft subreddit is a small place but not really worth looking at despite the odd newcomer who needs direction. Additionally, the marketplace sub is pretty much dead and really isn't worthwhile using despite the reddit mods pushing people to it.

The UK airsoft subreddit is basically

- "Do I need UKARA?"

- "What's better, a Specna or Cyma?"

- "Do i need UKARA to buy a Specna or Cyma?"

The big airsoft reddit isn't much better. Its a bit circlejerky and people say that their friend's sister's dogsitter did this thing once and it worked, so therefore must be gospel. I had someone argue with me that an TM NGRS 74 mag would fit an AK storm because they did it with their arcturus AK, when I literally had both guns and mags in front of me showing the opposite.

Not to mention the deluge of oh-so-funny 'Rate My Kit' posts of 'non-political' SS or Russian gear (usually swapping the t for a p in 'Rate' in the title too).  Bunch of edgy turbovirgin shite.

 
Ah that's a shame. I suppose all good things must come to an end. Arnies was a classic back int' day!

Oh well, long live airsoft forums UK :D
