airsoft things you don't understand

You'd be astounded by the number of people who own music gear but don't actually make music. Though, personally I have little issue with it, they are helping the supplies stay afloat so we can enjoy our nice things :)
That’s fair, come to think of it I can probably come up with a fair few hobbies where it’s the ‘retail therapy’ side of things that folks are into more than the thing you’ve bought them to do. With that said, I still don’t understand it at all!

I wish I could put my old fart hat on and blame it all on social media, but it’s been the same for as long as I can remember so I dare say that isn’t it.

I've got another that's probably unpopular...

I don't understand the allure of DMR power levels. I just don't see how 1.64J (or lower at some sites!) justifies a 30m MED. The difference in range over 1.1J is miniscule, but the lack of flexibility just hurts. I can justify 2.3J for bolt actions, because the difference in effective range is worth the trade off (most of the time), but 1.64J just isn't enough in my eyes.

1.88J and 25m MED is a bit different.

Sure, it's just a little extra range,  but it is extra, and sometimes 5m is all it takes.

What I don't understand is running a pistol with an DMR or boltie.  A compact AEG gives you a lot more options.

What annoys me? People that get upset that other people aren't having fun properly.

You will hate my patch wall then !

A lot of these I got for free, some from shot show and then yes, some specifically I purchased (Seal Team TV show ones etc..)

I dont hate it. It is my perspective as a budget softer, i see an extra toy gun in the collection and yes, i know full well that if i had the disposable, i too would have a patch wall.

This leads back to; how many hobbies does 'airsoft' cover? Spoiler alert, its alot, without gushing too much, that veriaty is also part of what i enjoy about the hobbie....along as you are prompt to site/crono/briefing with fair and honest play throughout. Oh and......

This thread does seem odd. Tbh as long as what other people do does not affect my weekend / game day then fill your boots. All I ask is you adhere to the rules and take your hits and im happy. Outside of that, if you wanna collect guns, patches, wear a hoody, run high caps, run low caps or whatever, its your hobby, if you're happy then who am I or anyone else to judge

Edit - And in regards to the thread title (not that the comment was aimed at me but its currently a slow work day...) Why do we need to understand? If it makes the person happy doing X, Y or Z...then it shouldn't matter really

Oh, I understood the assignment.

Most of the thread though is people complaining about how other people choose to behave. Like not getting that people can just collect airsoft stuff and not actually use it...
I can’t help it that my smooth brain can’t understand it ?.

I mean, if the content of the thread was things like "how LiPos produce more power at a lower voltage" or "the magnus effect" or "why power limits for DMRs and BASRs aren't consistent across all sites" then yes, it makes sense but it's not.

Dressing up in full BTP camo when playing in a well lit CQB game, WTF?
I think it would be because its cheap as chips, easy to get hold of and available in pretty much every size under the sun.
