AEG advice

Hi,

I'm new to airsoft so I appreciate any help or advice you can give me. I figured this was the right forum for this question, and not the newbie one. If I'm wrong, I apologise.

I've been following airsoft for a few months and have decided to get involved and have a go. A number of the shops in London do "hire purchase" type schemes, where you can buy your AEG through them, and they'll hang onto it until you qualify for your UKARA membership. I like the idea of this, and I figure if I buy a decent AEG first time round, I won't have to lay out on replacing it after a short time.

I've had a look around at some of the AEGs available so this week I went down to Wolf Armouries to see what they feel like and how they handle and there are a few I like, but I thought I'd ask your advice, as I'm sure people on here will have first hand experience with some or all of these AEGs/brands.

Of the following, which would you recommend or advise against, and why?

G&P Magpul M4A1 MOE Carbine (probably my favourite)

Beta Project Tactical AK

G&G SOC 16 (their version of the M14 SOCOM)

King Arms M4 VIS CQB

I appreciate that they're all quite different and some are for entirely different playing styles, but they're what has caught my eye so far. Any other recommendations would be welcome!

Personally.. id go with the cheapest and the lightest. my first game day i decided to run with a AK74U and a l96. i thought at the time it be best trying both roles out.

this being last year i now run a custom ICS m4 CQB and it weights a tonn! but i kinda like the heavy feel to it. not only that but spending alot on your first gun. which in a few weeks/months time might not be your thing your gun just collects dust. going to a shop and "feeling" the gun most times just isnt enough. u have to feel it with all your kit on and your play style (aggresive always on the move, laid back well paced). which brings me back to getting the cheapest gun, so u have spare cash to get other bits of kit that might help your play style on your first day. and most important..... DECENT BBs! for what good is your first game if your not packing enough ammo?

Of the following, which would you recommend or advise against, and why?

Either the g&g soc 16 (under a dmr role - where i believe m14 style rifles excel) or the beta ak (it's like a more modern funky looking ak ^^)- only because there less common and they look better - m4 is common and boring

But that's my personal preference

Plus like dan said you probably don't want to spend too much on your first gun (rarer guns or guns designed for specific roles may cost more)- BUT IMO the magpul and king arms is a lot of money for another m4 (granted there good but still jusr another m4 ^^ )

All in all I like m4's - but if I bought one I'd probably sell it within the month - I like guns that are good but also excite me aswell - and rarer rifles or in my case sniper rifles do this for me..

And then your probably thinking - '' so why do you have a g36? - there quite common''

The reason it's there more practical IMO - folding stock - great for cqb, ambidextrous controls -for when your shooting right or left handed around corners (or if your just left handed)- more modern looks (compared to the m4 which is an old design) and good balance of range accuracy and fps. - mine is a SRC gen 3 g36C which has great partially upgraded internals and the polymer body is reinforced , is stronger than abs plastic bodied g36's and is similar to the real steel (who doesn't like realism? - I would have picked the ares blowback model but after reading forums - they have a lot of problems especially with fire selector switches)

Other than if you fired the real steel with the stock folded we would all be pissing our selve`s on the ground in laughter and the minor other thing being hopefully no 5.56MM coming out of any barrel anyway lol

and it was the other way round when i started G36C`s being way too common lol

but generally don`t get anything common as you will still have a High ReSale Value.

Cheers guys! I do really like M14s, and the DMR role appeals to me. I'm gonna go down to Pro Airsoft Supplies at some point and have a look at their AEGs. They seem to have a good reputation on here, and have a good range of G&G Combat Machines, so I imagine I'll find something decent and reasonably priced among those. Is there a big difference in quality between Combat Machines and Top Techs?

I really like G&G's EBRs too, mainly the HBA-S, but they're pretty expensive so I'd wanna get a good grounding in airsoft before I laid out that much.

Thanks for the advice. It seems like none of the AEGs have any glaring flaws, so price has gotta be a major deciding factor.

Why - I presume you on about the stock blocking ejection port - but iirc the skeleton stock doesn't interfere with this - as shown in this test picture airsoft g36)

Dunno I think both are common but g36 is still more practical and yea - rarer guns do have higher resale value..

The main difference between combat machine and top tech is combat machine is made of a polymer and top-tech is metal...

However both are great - combat machines are nice and light..... Other than that most of the internals are the same pretty much...

Everyone I know with a combat machine has been pleasantly supprised and I know a lot of guys use them

As backup guns as they seem to be reliable and are really good - obviously not as good as top tech but you would be supprised at how close they both perform...

That's the one id get - not too long , has crane stock (crane stocks look awesome ^^ ) ,has blowback - and looks better than this;

I hate this style m4 - looks crappy lol

to be honest other than that m14 I wouldn't spend over £180 on your 1st gun unless like I said its a rarer gun or specialist role gun e.g sniper , LMG etc

Also to refer to your original post - wait the 3 games a get ukara and then buy your gun - and I did the same -pre-ordered/ bought my g36 - they held on to it till I was ukara and then I went and collected it

Also I've seen that 1st m4 with an Acog - worked very well as a dmr ish rifle - obviously not as good as the m14 though.....

^^ I'm Pretty sure you can fire them with stock folded - but then I could be wrong - having never fired the real steel one....
