A loadout too far

Jeez, always wanting pics. I'll put my phone on charge and take a pic in a bit then.

Note: I have not modified the interior or chinstrap yet and the photo makes it look smaller.

Pretty good! It'll definitely do. Would be better with some proper cargo net of course, which I'm afraid I've had to put up to £10 posted due to market forces.

Very nice Russe! By the time you get the proper netting and some Hessian on there, no one will be able to tell!

Don't you hate those market forces :)

I think I need larger mesh net than even the netting you have.

I have bids on ebay auctions atm for this webbing

and a sten gun sling both ending in the next 24hrs.

The webbing includes the entrenching tool but not the handle for it.

I will then just need a small pack and L straps, trousers, helmet net, scrim, chin strap.

I'm getting there slowly :)

There is a spin off loadout I'm considering, Aussie Jungle greens. Basically the same webbing with green shirt and trousers and a slouch hat.

I got the King arms mags. They are a pain in the arse. The catch that holds the bb's in is chisel shaped but sticks out too far so that when you try and load the mag, the hopup is pushing on the horizontal bit. If you fill the mag and push the catch in a millimetre then they go in nicely, otherwise it requires quite a slap so will probably break something.

Edit: have done a successful modification of the mags by glueing slither of plastic in front of the ribbed slider on the catch. some mags slot in really easy now, others are as stiff as the original ASG mag.

Not that that last makes much sense to us without... well, you know ;) :D

You want one of these?

The white bit is the added slither of grey plastic. Incidentally, on some its glued to the mag, on others to the slider. Doesn't make any difference its just fiddly to get the glued side in the same direction each time :)

Aha! Thx for that, Russ. I had a D-Boys 1000rnd Quad Stack AK mag which wouldn't feed at all because that slider was too stiff = i clipped a couple of mil off the spring and that did the trick. You'd think that they'd notice these things and do something, wouldn't you? Well, so long as i can hold out against cynic mode, I would :)

To get an idea of the size of the bit of plastic used. They are the numbered bits from the sprue of an airfix kit. Each number cut in half will do 2 mags.

The original ASG mags have the opposite problem, if you take the speed loader out too fast, they spew half the mag before the catch engages. The ASG mags are very much better quality, but as King Arms are the only ones making 110 round mags, people will keep buying them. Over on the WW2airsoft forums, you can read about people who's mags had to be filed down to fit into MP40's. Apparently Stens aren't usually a problem, I guess I was unlucky.

Have ordered Gaiters, helmet net and scrim, Blanco (to dye the webbing) and L straps (The straps for pattern 37 backpacks) from soldier of fortune.

If I win the Sten sling and webbing, I will have a very basic setup sorted. Will then just need a small pack (easy to get) and battledress.

Small pack ordered and have won auction for webbing. I now have everything for the basic loadout on its way to me. The next step is to upgrade bits to more authentic items. Battledress will be 1st for this :)

The smock is weird. It's made of duck cotton. It's a material I have only ever encountered in carradice saddle bags. Basically its very heavy duty cotton woven so tight that if it gets damp, the fibres swell and it becomes watertight. Essentially it does what modern breathable waterproof membranes do. It's also very stiff so I imagine bb's will not hurt much wearing it :)

I wasn't sure at 1st but I soaked it in the bath to get rid of the smell of mothballs and the pockets didn't leak water, I had to turn the smock upside down to empty the pockets :D

Removed the helmet interior and glued in some foam. Helmet net and scrim arrived so added that.

Just need to soak the scrim so it lays flatter and sort out a chin strap. Quite pleased with the result :)

My smock makes a cameo appearance here :)

Just been sat Blanco-ing the L straps and Gaiters. Couldn't work out which was the top of the L straps so had to find a diagram.

Helpful Diagram:

This is going to be sooo useful when I have to put it all together.

Consider this revenge for telling us that Landwarrior have the £100 Stens back in...

WW2 British Airborne Body Armour on sale £30 off for limited period!!!

TBH I didn't know they even had body armour @Arnhem.

Probably used Arnhem to test a load of stuff, body armour, Sterling sub machine guns... I mean, where better to test all your super secret inventions than miles behind enemy lines? :)

Yeah, especially since the opposition was only comprised of kids and old men...

Webbing has arrived. Just waiting for the small pack now. Capacity of each mag pouch is 6 sten mags. I only have 6 mags so I have a pouch spare atm.

At this point Ian is going to ask for pictures, be patient Ian FFS! :D

I may take the gear with me to work and get someone to photograph me in it, otherwise the plan is to get to an outdoor site and finally test the sten on Sunday. If anyone in the Bristol area is going to Spartan or Black ops on Sunday and can give me a lift...
